Threat prevention and high speed Broadband
-
Ok, passing 1Gbps of firewall+NAT is not that hard, you don't need particularly powerful hardware.
However if you want to run packages and still pass that, and it sounds like you do, you will need something reasonably powerful.
-
I guess of course with add on and apps that protecting the network and internet species from the kids I need powerful motor to do so
I would appreciate your guidance
-
What hardware were planning to use here?
-
@stephenw10
I can use my PC and change my current network card Ethernet to 1.25G Network card T-4 or 2 RJ45 and setup VM .. or I can use smaller hardware .. idk -
Since its going to sorting and filtering and AD blocking it need a 2ghz and 8gb memory to perform small home networking bandwidth
I guess I prefer to build or buy such machine rather using my pc for 24/7 pfsense tasks ..
-
What CPU is in that?
Running that as a test to get some idea of the loading with your intended setup is not a bad idea. That will allow you to buy something appropriately sized later.
-
i5 3ghz 64gb ram
-
Ok, well that would definitely be overkill, especially if it's a recent i5.
But if you have that available to test with I would do so to get an idea of what you might need there.
-
So I have to change the network card!
Which network are being more reliable? -
Use an Intel based NIC if at all possible.
-
What kind I know that there are many different model!
-
Something i350 based for a multiport NIC or i210/i211 will work well.
You might also check this list of OEM equivalent NICs:

Thank a lot I just bought a used from eBay Dell Intel Dual Port Ethernet Server Adapter X520-T2 JM42W Full Height hope that it works functional ..
-
That should work fine.
