Then out of the LAN port and into my Wi-Fi router. If you can please spread some knowledge my way to be able to get this running that would be amazing.
Connect the modem to the wan port, then power cycle the modem.
You should be good from there. -
@jarhead after the modem power cycles I need to make sure that it was assigned a public or private IP Adress.

@jarhead as of right now an ethernet cable is connected to the wan port and i showing an ip 192.168.1.199/24.

What's the model number?And why do you only have 1 interface?

Your isp is handing out a 192.168.1 address - that seems highly unlikely.. ISP using nat would hand out a cgnat range.. You sure your pfsense box wan, this em0 is plugged into your cm1000 ?

How is the router connected?
Should be modem right to the pfSense WAN port.Also, are you sure the modem has internet?
They will hand out a private address if there's no internet connected.
Plug a pc into the modem, power cycle it again, what IP do you get? -

Good point - but do they use the 192.168.1 range - everyone I have seen uses 192.168.100 something..

Same here but who knows.
My guess is he has his router between the modem and pfSense. -

"you have chosen to remove the LAN interface" means it was deleted from the console when it wasn't assigned. I would think if OP assigns LAN then it would work, but since the default IP of pfSense LAN is 192.168.1.1 that IP/subnet would need to be changed since it can't be the same as WAN.
Q: if pfSense is only set up with one interface does it assign its LAN subnet to that interface?
Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

Can't imagine it would. Don't people use 1 interface with vlans in VM's? Maybe even physical?

No, it would be wan - but when wan is the only interface it sets rules to be able to access gui from that interface. And as @Jarhead correctly mentions if pfsense was using its default lan IP, then it would be .1 not .199..
Something handed his pfsense wan that IP. Now it could be his isp, but that would be very odd.. I guess not impossible that some ISP is handing out 192.168.1 IPs to its users - but wtf?? Why would they not be using the normal CGNat range of 100.64/10 if they didn't have or didn't want to hand out public IPs to their customers.
And looking, it sure seems the nighthawk modems, the cm1000 he mentions does use the common 192.168.100 range for addresses. So its not his cable modem handing out rfc1918 when it doesn't have a connection to the isp.

I imagine it failed to work initially here because the WAN and LAN were using the same subnet.
If you reset pfSense to the default config and then changed the LAN to, for example: 172.16.1.1/24
If would probably connect OK. It would at least allow access to the gui on the LAN diagnose further.Steve

Yeah, I was just thinking out loud, and I see now it says DHCP so not a user-typed IP.
Ultimately it needs a LAN interface to function. :)

thanks so much your all the help i finally was able to get the box setup. Also in order to get my wifi router to work do i need to spoof its mac address?

No, not between pfSense and a router acting as a wifi access point behind it. There are no restrictions to MAC addresses there.
The only MAC requirements would be between pfSense and the modem/ISP.

huh? Normally when replacing a wifi router with pfsense the best thing to do would be now to just use your old wifi router as AP. If it does not have that specific mode - any wifi router can be used as just AP.
Turn off its dhcp server, set its lan IP to be an IP on your network and connect it to your network via one of its lan ports vs the wifi routers wan port.
