    Hello,

what are the 2.5G NICs that definitely work fine with pfsense 2.7.0?

As far as I know the i225-V rev3 NICs work fine. That's what we have in the 6100 and 4100.

        @Unoptanio
There is i226-V is on the market already, that is claimed as “fixed” version of 225.
        But…
        https://wccftech.com/intel-releases-new-driver-to-mitigate-i226-i225-ethernet-controller-issues/
This somehow still trial and error…
You can try it anyway, at your own risk. There is no good solution for that amount of money, only if you're going with next level, like 10Gbps Intel cards that have issues as well, but support is a bit better.

We use that in the 8200 and haven't seen any issues there either. The i226 is significantly more efficient. Uses about half the power IIRC.

            Greetings,
As a Windows user and owner of motherboards with integrated i225 and i226 network cards, I know the problems with these cards. But the new released intel drivers are only for windows systems. Are there no chip firmware updates?
So on BSB14 I have no idea if an updated driver has been released

X520 NICs usually work well, I have one. They use the ixgbe driver instead of the ixl driver for the X710. Both shoudl work fine in pfSense.

There is no Aquatia driver in the 2.7 kernel. There is a kmod pkg that may or may not support that. That package is not in out repo though:

I don't know how well it is supported today, but several years ago it was a pure lottery with Aquantia.

I purchased https://www.ebay.com/itm/195858888441 those. This is original Intel cards with verification label on it, at least I got two of them. Replaced thermal grease, one of them looked like not used at all. Updated firmware to the latest available from Intel, both are now working fine… Just read https://forum.netgate.com/topic/146913/nbase-t-support-for-intel-x550/53 if you will buy it.

it's amazing how many fake network cards there are out there. Especially the Chinese that pass for $100 Intel.
The most counterfeit, the I350T4, after a short time of use no longer work.

Yup. Used OEM rebranded cards are usually a much better buy for that reason:

Not sure is it actual now, those fake cards. My experience is that, what you have on the modern market, even if we are talking about Ali or any other big, then if we don't look at on the cheapest shit. Then mostly what we have is OEM branded Intel like Dell/HP used cards removed from servers in unknown condition and custom firmware that is mostly outdated if we compare it to Intel original. For the entry level as I350 I have one Chinese card that was working about 5 years and replaced just because I upgraded to higher speeds. If we are talking about i225/226/2xx then there are no cards from intel at all, those chips are embedded solution for the motherboards. But there are a lot of custom variants stand-alone cards, and I think not all of them are bad or fake.
But if you want to go with reliable solution, then you should buy some new well known from a reliable supplier.

                                      I would say quite expensive
