Cannot connect to installer daemon
-
I am trying to install a fresh install of netgate-installer-v1.0-RC-amd64-20240919-1435.img from USB stick Kingston Datatraveler 100 G3 64 GB.
On this Qotom Q350G4 pc I get "Cannot connect to installer daemon".
The below picture shows last logs of messages:
The below picture shows last logs of daemon.log:
From the daemon.log the only strange thing I can find is that the config.xml file can not be found. Could it be that is making the installer halt on "Cannot connect to installer daemon"?
I tried to install from USB stick with FreeBSD-14.2-RELEASE-amd64-memstick.img and this works just fine all hardware is identified and the OS can be installed.
I have installed Pfsense from this USB stick Kingston Datatraveler 100 G3 64 GB on another PC and it just works fine.
So any hints or ideas on what to test to make the installation work?
Thanks in advance!

It's looking for a config.xml file to use for restore during the install. So either something on the USB drive or recovered from a previous install. It doesn't find one but that's fine it will still just install with the default values.
I don't see the daemon error there. And the log shows it clearly was running at some point. Where are you seeing that?

It looks like that has a serial console. Have you tried using that?
At least it would make it easy to copy/paste the logs out. -
@stephenw10, sorry for the delay needed to fix a serial to USB adapter.
I tried what you proposed but with same result see below logs from console:

No nothing there looks incorrect.
So where exactly does it fail?
-
@stephenw10 again sorry for the delay in responding.
It looks like instead of bringing up the installer menu it fails for some reason.
So the question is which states needs to be fullfilled for pfsense installer to launch the gui to choose to install?
It brings up lo0 what is the next step in the installer process? Does the network need to be in some specfic state?
I am out of ideas. Do you have some ideas to test?

@mattlund said in Cannot connect to installer daemon:
Console type [vt100]:
Are you able to type at that prompt? Usually you just hit return there and it should draw the menu. How are you connected to it?
-
@stephenw10 I am connected with console now and not display and keyboard.
I get to the same menu that says "Cannot connect to the installer deamon" so the result from the display and keyboard is the same as from console.
So the only way forward as I see it is to understand the list of states that needs to be fullfilled for Pfsense to not end up in the "Cannot connect to the installer deamon".
How does it connect to the installler daemon in the first place? -
The daemon runs locally when you boot the installer. The connection is just via a local socket.
The only reason it would not be able to connect is if the daemon is not running.
Do you see any part of the menu from the installer?
Your initial screenshot showed the daemon log had some entries implying it was running at least initially.
