    Dual CPU system only one CPU listed, high usage ?

      I have installed pfsense on a Dual Xeon 700 where I see the CPU getting far up for some seconds with only a couple of kbps.

      When I do a systat I only see one CPU, I thought pfsense was supporting Dual CPU's ?

      This shows 70% what was 45% actually on the screen.

      Is it running on one CPU ? and why 45% from time to time with only a couple of kpbs ? only normal default logging is on.</idle>

        Ok,

        For now I know it runs on only ONE CPU.

        dmesg | grep cpu

        cpu0: <acpi cpu="">on acpi0

        Why do I see everywhere that People run it on SMP boxes ?</acpi>

          I don't know.  Mine runs a SMP box, and uses 2 CPUs

              I have still found no reason for this ONE CPU install.

              I have installed the 1.2BETA1 version and upgraded directly to the latest snapshot from 06-06-2007.

                Proper SMP setups in pfsense will show 2 cpus (or more).  Someone not too long ago (about 5 week) had the same issue you were having.  If I can ask, is your machine a clone or a brand-name server like Compaq?  In the previous scenario, the user had a Compaq and had to update his firmware.  Once done, both cpu's were detected.  Maybe the same will apply to you.

                  I have 2 the same compaqs with the same BIOS, I just checked and one system has 2CPU's detected and one system just one.

                  The system with 2 CPU's detected has failed on a reboot so I will check this today evening and update that one directly to the latest version from yesterday because SSH was reachable but HTTPS didn't anymore and firewall-rules that allowed connection were actually blocking them… so HTTPS did not work.

                  I hope this is also solved in the latest version.

                    The system that had 2 CPU's listed with "dmesg | grep cpu"  now has also listed only one CPU.

                    I don't get it why this happens when the BIOS shows 2 CPU's.

                      Can it be that this is a FreeBSD + Compaq Hardware Issue ?

                        No problem i think with my platform and Pfsense 1.0.1, 1.2b1 and now, 1.2b2 …

                          same problem, i have single p4 3ghz with hyperthreading is activated on BIOS.
                          pfsense 1.2RC1 and 1.0.1 freeze when probing acpi0: <a m="" i="" oemrsdt="">on ASUS P4P800-E motherboard.

                          no result after i load default BIOS config.  now i can't use that hardware for pfsense. why? ??? ??? ???</a>
