Hey guys, just went down again.  Didn't get any yellow exclamation mark on the network icon.  Went over to cable modem and router and there was no status lights lit on the NIC that is my WAN and also the port on the cable modem that is connected to the WAN wasn't lit.  Had to power cycle the modem to get it back up.  Shit, i was hoping it was fixed.. Here are a couple of the screens I got.  Thanks  so much guys for trying to help me with this.  Cable modem is a Cisco DPC3825.

        So- simple stuff

Have you tried wiggling your ethernet cable between the modem and the router?

        Tried replacing same cable?

What lights are on the front of the modem now and then when your connection is down?

        Modem stats would be wonderful…

Just changed the cable and the port that it was plugged into to rule out the port and cable..  When the internet is up, all lights are solid and since it is a modem/gateway, the port that goes to PFsense WAN port blinks with activity.  When it went down, everything was solid (including ONLINE light) EXCEPT the port that is connect to WAN of PFsense was out.

Well for what it is worth, I doubt SHAW is IPv6 for the last mile yet as rumor has it and they are behind Telus which I am on, so I would run IPv4 only including the WAN.  I do not use IPv6 at all, as in disabled completely with PFSense. Also the DNS Resolver settings need touch up. Your Outbound should be WAN instead of default all, then select your LAN,s for the other setting which in the photo,s show they are NOT selected. Finally the last snapshot is probably going to be the Release coming this Tuesday I have heard.
It may help to update to latest.
IPv6 is still long ways off before you will need to turn it on.

Did some checking and when the Cisco DPC3825 is in bridged mode only port one works.

you live anywhere near Coquitlam?  :)

I was wondering about IPv6, i will try to disable it.  I will also fix up the DNS resolver settings.  When the final 2.3 comes out I will upgrade to that.

Here is my plan of attack.

Since I switched cables and switched ports on the cable modem, i don't think it is a cable or the port.  I guess it has to be either the cable modem itself, pfsense, the Intel dual PCIe NIC or maybe a setting on the motherboard to do with PCIe or something.

I am going to get Shaw in to replace the cable modem, that will take that out of the equation.  If I keep having problems, i will pull the dual NIC and use the 2 built in Intel NICS, that should eliminate the NIC. I also have another computer I can try to completely remove the MiniITX build as a problem.

Man, what a nightmare.. Sounds like a couple more weeks of internet/family hell :)

Check the link to the SHAW also. You know it may not hurt to do a default setting redo and then go back into bridge mode. Hard reboot of modem may work if it was using wrong port any length of time. But see how #one works first I guess.  ;)

pick each LAN interface you are running that needs DNS  and also you should see Localhost . I did not pick my IPv6 interfaces. I have 3 picked myself for two network LANS and localhost(firewall itself)

Do you have a simple switch you could put between the modem and the router?

Are you not able to see any of the admin pages on the modem?  There could be an issue between the two devices that is causing this and the logs might show something…

I do have a nice Cisco switch that i could put between the modem and the router.  I cannot see any admin pages on the modem.  I could if it was in "gateway" mode and acting like a router but since it is in bridged mode, it is just acting like a cable modem, cannot get into it I believe, i have tried.

There should be a way to get into it…  Otherwise how would you change it back to gateway mode?

Do you remember the old address it responded to?

pretty sure the only way you can get back into it is to factory reset it with the reset button on the back.  It used to respond to 192.168.0.1, now that ip is unreachable.
