@ryanbe said in 21.02 Sudden lockup:

Sounds like this may limit impact of the the issue since hourly filter reloads will no longer occur?

Exactly. Whilst it appeared that pfBlocker was causing this initially it now seems that was only because it periodically reloads the ruleset. Without that happening you will probably never see this issue.

@stephenw10 what about SNORT not loading on SG3100 running 21.02?

@stephenw10 I've still occasionally seen this but only when running speed tests. That has been a fairly consistent way to replicate the issue even with pfBlockerNG-devel disabled and running dnsmasq vs unbound.

To note, I have also seen the 3100 not wanting to come back up after a hard power reset and it took 3+ resets and/or running /etc/rc.reload_all via console to get things running again/even get into the Web UI, though pfBlocker/unbound were the active processes still at this time.

Well, guess this was wishful thinking on my part. Just crashed right when my kids joined their school Zoom sessions - I had been on a Zoom for 15 minutes with no issues until the additional load was added. pfBlockerNG was not running an update at that time.

@ryanbe I had issues like this till I fully removed pfblocker.

3 TVs online, zoom, the whole works. no crash.

@ffuentes Welcome to Netgate- now you get to RMA the hardware to Texas and wait 4-5 weeks.

@tommyg not sure I want to RMA. I think ill just switch to a new solution.
I am in Texas my self but this whole debacle is causing a lot of pain. I am hoping they come up with a patch asap.

@ffuentes The fix for now is to revert to 2.4.5p1 until we fix the issue. Please open a ticket for the firmware link or send me a PM and I get it to you.

@tommyg Your comments aren't helpful in this thread. Our RMAs don't take 4-5 weeks unless you ship the device to us via horse and buggy and your statements aren't relevant to this thread anyway. Stay on topic unless you'd like your comments to be removed.

My sg-3100 is working fine with the current 21.02, without pfblockerng.
I guess my network throughput is not high enough to trigger the problem discussed earlier..
Noticed a few other problems, but my topic wasn't answered.. Like status>monitor>traffic being empty, but I can live with it..

Do you think I should downgrade to 2.4.5p1 as well?
Some comments above from devices console not responding anymore are kind of worrying me..
I mean, is there a chance to happen a complete failure in which I won't be able to reinstall?

@tommyg Personally attacking the support staff who are only trying to help troubleshoot and provide assistance is unacceptable. Enjoy your temporary ban.

@mcury If you aren't have any issues, no need to downgrade yet. Just make sure you have your USB console cable handy if you do run into an issue, but if you avoid reloading your firewall filter for now under heavy load, you should be fine. We should have a fixed update soon.

I am having issues with snort on upgrade. have had to uninstall it completely.

dhcp issues to my access point - happens randomly where internet connection is steady but pfsense seems to kick off my access point which then thinks it is no longer in access point mode and reverts to routing starting to handout IPs... and loss of internet connectivity.

repeat issues with ntopng - had to reinstall - this seems to be stable-ish for the moment.

Now noticed that System/Package Manager/Available Packages is not showing any packages for me to install... especially Snort.
