Pfsense directly connected to fiber dsl (No modem)
-
I've attached the pictures of what was working which is no longer working without any changes made.. any suggestions?
If it works with ethernet directly-connected then you just need to get it directly-connected via ethernet.
Again, pfSense has nothing to do with Layer 1.

What version of pfSense?
https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/7981

I could not get it working on 2.3.4 after only unplugging the unit for a few weeks, no changes made.
I'm not on 2.4.1 but have not tested.
-
As long as you are on 2.3.4 it does not apply. Not sure what to tell you there. Check your PPP logs for anything that looks like it is not working.
-
Ok thanks :)
So basically i can bypass the modem and PPPoe into Bell's DSL service with pfsense providing my setup is accurate right?
Also, at home i have an RJ11 phone input thus cannot do testing before bringing in the router to the customer's is there a workaround to convert RJ11 to RJ45? I tried an adapter but it didn't work (pretty stupid of me i know lol)
-
It is ethernet or it is not. Whatever wiring is terminated with an RJ11 is almost always not ethernet.
-
Agreed, i was just hoping there was a way to test the setup at home where i only have an rj11 input.

You need ethernet to connect to pfSense. It has nothing to do with what jack is terminated, though RJ11 is pretty much never ethernet.

Ok got it to work with NO MODEM by upgrading to latest release..and the following settings (attached in jpeg) for those interested in a solution.

What version were you using before upgrading to the "latest" one?
Version 2.4.1 was shipped with serious faults - if you have a PPPoE assigned to VLAN port (as you have done), then it wouldn't connect.
I wonder if this was why you had such trouble getting it working.
Caught me out for a few days. I don't normally read every release note for every system I use so I guess this is my fault :)
Here's a discussion about it: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=138804.0

Currently I have 2.4.2 installed, i might have had another issue prior. Now i have another issue, basically i'm capped at 100Mbps whereas the DSL service is 250Mbps Up & Down. My NICs are both gigabit so i'm wondering what is causing the loss of performance? Could it be the PCs specs? Duo Core..
Thanks again for all your help :)
