I noticed and just recreated what something I can't explain in the way the captive portal behaves.  When visiting the system_advanced.php page I get this in the logs:

Jul  5 12:06:58 portal-a php: /system_advanced.php: webConfigurator certificates have changed.  Restarting webCon
    figurator.
Jul  5 12:07:05 portal-a php: : Creating rrd update script
Jul  5 12:07:05 portal-a php: : Creating rrd graph index

and all portal users are de-authenticated; nothing was saved, so no changes to lighttpd should have been committed (the certificates were not changed but are custom).  I have recreated this on 2 separate occasions under RC-1.  Has anyone else seen this?

If it thinks the certs have changed then it reloads all of what you described.  Sounds like a bug in the code to detect if the certs have changed.

Did you ever get an answer on this from anyone?  We are running version 1.0.1 and just noticed that it was still happening?  WE have certs in tehre, but https is not enable at this time.  Does anyone have any ideas?

        Thank you.

I have not seen this behavior in newer versions.
