Have you entered the LAN network into the "Local Networks" box (if "Redirect gateway" is not checked)?

Is the pfSense box the default gateway in the LAN?

For accessing a LAN device through the VPN, rules on LAN are irrelevant.
You need to allow it on the OpenVPN interface. But I assume, it is, since you can access the pfSense LAN IP.

Next step to look is if the LAN device allows access from outside. Pinging from pfSense itself is not from outside.
By default outside access is blocked on computers. So you might have to add a firewall rule to it to allow the access.

If the VPN is for your own purposes only you can also masquerade the traffic on pfSense if you want.
