Can not access webui from local LAN
-
@Jarhead now just got to work out how and what to allow in
-
@makaone20 That's simple. Nothing.
Just set up a VPN -
@Jarhead any recommendations? I need to be able to obtain high speed downloads and not be throttled
-
@makaone20
Recommendations on what, a VPN?
What are you running on your LAN you need remote access to?As far as throttling, that would depend on your ISP, do they limit usage?
-
@Jarhead i run a plex server via a qnap nas that my family access remotely. As far as i know my isp does not throttle but i have previously tried setting up a openvpn connection and noticed a quite considerable drop in download speeds when running through the vpn.
As im totally new to this sort off stuff im open to suggestions regarding setting everything up for the best possible outcome.
I was able to connect to the pfsense box yesterday via direct connection from pc, but now i wish to put it in the network that i hoping i can get some help with.
Currently my network setup is
-
NBN box (fibre to premise) to WAN of Netgear nighthawk
-
Netgear nighthawk (WAN)(DHCP) WIFI access point
LAN connected to a Netgear switch and QNAP Nas (Static IP)
- Netgear switch provide rest of home with network access and internet
I wanted to place the pfSense bow between NBN and Nighthawk mode/router but keep the wifi access point etc for the rest of the home. Im not sure of the best way to configure or how to connect it correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First thing to do is get pfSense in and working.
So connect the WAN to your ISP, connect a wired pc to the LAN and make sure you have internet working.
Once you get that done, connect the Netgear switch to the LAN port.
Connect the LAN side of the Netgear router to a switchport on the Netgear switch, don't use the WAN port on the Netgear router. Log in to the Netgear router, turn off dhcp server, Set a static ip so you can access it for management.
That will make the Netgear router an Access Point only, and switch if it has switchports.
That's it. Connect whatever else you have to the switch or AP as needed. -
@Jarhead i have connected the pfSense box, but im not able to obtain a WAN ip. Showing as 0.0.0.0
Any ideas?

@makaone20 You in down under in Oz land? I do recall reading that NBN down there like to use vlan 2.. Not sure about that - but simple google finds this.

Are you PPoE as well?? You normally need to auth to your isp for PPoE to work, etc.
You might want to get with your ISP, or check their forums..
-
@johnpoz i have been able to obtain a WAN IP. Google works but if i say try and load a speedtest site it can not connect. Other sites work fine. Its like they are being blocked.. is this a setting in pfsense?
And yes im in OZ land

is this a setting in pfsense?
Not unless you created one - or using something like IPS or pfblocker and are blocking it. Out of the box pfsense blocks nothing outbound, and blocks all things unsolicited inbound into your wan.
