intel i350-t4 always shows network connection down on pfsense 2.6 and higher
-
So I had pfsense running with 2.4.5 just fine, went to update to 2.6 and the network card intel i350-t4 always shows connection as down...I originally thought the card died, and went back to using my modem as a router for quite a while, I set up pfsense for a friend using the same card, but he had to take it down as I wasn't available to troubleshoot a problem for him, he gave me the computer with the same network card i350-t4 and today I went to install pfsense 2.7.2 on it and it's doing the same thing even though a network cable is connected and lighting up it detects all ports as down. I don't understand why
-
Where are you seeing it as down?
What does
ifconfig
show at the command line? -
when I go to 1) setup interfaces, it gives you a list of them being down, when I do -a to auto config it tells me they're down
-
Ah, OK. Not all NICs/drivers support that. But the NIC itself should still work.
-
@stephenw10
It does not and I know it should as it worked previously to 2.6 in both machines its the exact same, network connections down -
@NaibElSayel
I ordered an intel pro 1000 vt to replace it as I have no clue from any internet searches as what to do about it, and vt is supported in freebsd 14 -
i350 is well supported. Just assign the interfaces as igb0 and igb1. Then use the output of
ifconfig
once the install is complete to discover which port is igb0. -
@stephenw10
ifconfig results in showing no carrier for status tried to assign interfaces again and link status is down, even tried running ifconfig igb0 up and its still not -
Hmm, so you competed the setup and run ifconfig and all the igb NICs show no carrier even though the port itself has active link LEDs?
-
@stephenw10 yes
-
@NaibElSayel You may want to check the Yottamark sticker on the card to rule out it being a fake.
-
@WN1X why would it start doing my problem after 2.6, wouldn't it have always done it if it were fake?
-
Newer drivers trying to read something from the card that it isn't reporting correctly for example.
-
I disabled the realtek onboard card, it works for a minute but I can't even get through the wizard on the gui before it stops working...
@WN1X @stephenw10 -
@NaibElSayel Did you check the card to see if it is a fake, as I suggested?
-
@NaibElSayel said in intel i350-t4 always shows network connection down on pfsense 2.6 and higher:
I disabled the realtek onboard card, it works for a minute
What works? The i350?
Is anything logged?
-
@WN1X it doesn't have a fancy sticker...bummer...but none of the ones I see online to buy like from amazon or ebay have them in the pictures...
-
@NaibElSayel Check for a BradyID. You can check here: https://verifyintel.bradyid.com
-
Mostly the "fake" cards are OK it seems. I've never tried one myself but there are many reports here on the forum.
-
@stephenw10 @WN1X ya it is definitely fake...where would I find a real one in canada?
