Dynamic Content option

Does anyone know what really happens behind the scenes when you select Squid's Dynamic Content option in conjunction with a service like Windows Update or Symantec?  I assume it adds some custom refresh patterns & cache TTL settings, but what exactly does it do?  I'm doing some testing on it again and I don't want a conflict between my refresh patterns and any auto-added ones.
