    Hello team, I have a Netgate 8200 running 24.11-RELEASE (amd64) with Suricata 7.0.8_5 package installed. Suricata doesn't seem to start. It loops to red once I press the Play button on the interface. It leaves no logs in the System logs, it leaves no logs in suricata.log at /var/log/suricata/suricata_ovpns933787/suricata.log I tried launching it manually: # /usr/local/bin/suricata -V or # /usr/local/bin/suricata -c /usr/local/etc/suricata/suricata_33787_ovpns9/suricata.yaml -i suricata_ovpns933787 and I get this output ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/bin/suricata: Undefined symbol "__strlcpy_chk@FBSD_1.8" Thanks in advance, Dara

    @kabeda If memory serves, that old version of ntopng did not run as user ntopng, but as user nobody. There are lots of problems in that old version. Anyway, check the ownership and permissions of /var/db/ntopng and make sure it matches the user that ntopng runs as. You may need to set ownership of the entire hierarchy. Example: /usr/sbin/chown -R nobody:nobody /var/db/ntopng However, the better choice would be to upgrade to a more recent version.

    @BBcan177 Thank you for the kind reminder; I am so accustomed to ensuring Save Settings is checked that I didn't follow your instructions properly (thanks @tinfoilmatt for uploading and highlighting the screen shot). I've properly followed the instructions and the update did not report and db problems. Thank you again! drac

    @agitelzon I have no issue connecting to LE servers from pf shell. The issue is cloudflare security setting is configured as a whitelist for api zone record changes. The whitelist includes my ipv4 address only, as a /32. As I mentioned, I could add the ipv6 prefix as a /64. Given that pf is configured to prefer ipv4, I thought that would carry over to acme as well.

    @lbm_ I have the same problem: pfSense v25.07.1 on FreeBSD 15-Current, Netgate 6100. Could you let me know if you found a solution? I haven't. I have been updating Tailscales from Freshports while keeping the Tailscale Package installed. I have recently read that this can cause problems with routes, interfaces, firewall rules, and others. I am leaning towards deleting the Tailscale package.

    @tinfoilmatt Thanks! I have done that and it worked when forcing just her TV out the Centurylink.. My problem is my local box here. Im missing something because I can not get it to pass traffic from the WAN to the Wireguard tunnel. Ive got some time today so will chip away on my lab setup to see if I can finally accomplish it here first.

    @cmb991: I have squid installed, do I just list websites that I want blocked under the blacklist of squid and they will be blocked? you can also use dns blacklist, check it out if it helps.

    HI Thanks about this "You can get rid of that error by removing the blocked ips from the snort2c pf table." I have removed every thing from Block log and alert log. it does not have anything in there still i have seeing the same error Or php programm was eating too much memory almost 99% of the cpu . what shall i do ?? Thanks

    A package itself has to provide an enable/disable setting, otherwise you'd have to uninstall. As for PPTP+NAT, try 2.0. Those issues should all be resolved there.

    Thank you…. If your willing to test a bit more. there is code in snort.inc commented out called "Red Devil". Try to invoke those options and play with the settings to see if you can get improvements. James

    Dont worry about the flow bits. These errors on the other hand needs to be looked at. I need to update snort or the alert map file for the missing this sigs. "Encoded Rule Plugin SID: 17132, GID: 3 not registered properly. Disabling this rule." I am rebuilding snort from the ground up, that's taking all my time, Simply. Im working as fast as I can. James

    @dvserg: And why this is necessary when scanning the flow of traffic? This will reduce the download speed. A good compromise size of 50-500kb. i noticed  many of files downloaded  are above 10MB  i already tackled file of 40MB attached with virus from user download, lucky we have local AV on workstation also but anyway if it could be stooped at firewall that woud be better. HAVP allows you to scan FTP Over HTTP. Is it enabled automatically? Last question i saw that HAVP already in 0.92a version while package version is 0.91 can i upgrade it to that version or there process of update package into 0.92a? Only manually through pkg_delete/pkg_add. So no plan to update HAVP package soon Thanks

    2 jemedia You can test ACL work in transparent mode I'm not sure what this situation correct writen in docs(http://diskatel.narod.ru/sgquick.htm), because don't has full testing. What you can do for test ACL in transparent mode: Set Default_All to deny on Default page Add ACL with you subnet and set Default_All ad allow APPLY and Browse from you workstation.

    i have 5 time to install and delete and install and reinstall package still problem. 2.0-BETA4 (i386) built on Thu Nov 18 23:22:28 EST 2010 You are on the latest version. dvserg, i istall HAVP on pfSense-2.0-BETA4-20101104-0049 and work, then the system down is my server, i install fresh copy and upgrade to built on Thu Nov 18 23:22:28 EST 2010, but after upgrade to built on Thu Nov 18 23:22:28 EST 2010 HAVP give me error. What is the solution? THNX

    ich hab es endlich! manno mann war das eine nerviger akt ;) also damit es alle hinbekommen, die es vielleicht noch nicht haben….. ICH HABKEINE AHNUNG WOZU DIE WHITELIST INTEGRIET WURDE????? was man unter dem wort whitelist versteht, ist jetzt unter "suppress" zu finden ;) da kann man clientips für den filter auf die whitelist setzen! also das diese an dem snort filter vorbeihuschen dürfen ohne geblockt zu werden! hab einfach das erste beispiel genommen was einem dort vorgeschlagen wird! z.b. suppress gen_id 1, sig_id 5998 , track by_src, ip 192.168.10.25 suppress gen_id 1, sig_id 5999 , track by_src, ip 192.168.10.25 mit dieser regel in suppress wird skype wieder freigelassen wenn ihr es vorher mit den p2p rules geblockt habt! nur nicht vergessen im main teil nochmal save zu drücken und man muss tatsächlich (habs eben 10x probiert) sein snort für die interfaces deaktivieren und wieder aktivieren damit der shit übernommen wird! danach gehts aber ;) und es funktioniert bestens! VIEL ERFOLG Bei fragen.....pm CLOSED

    Yes, use squid and ACLs to solve this.  Technically, you could also use squidGuard, although its not necessary.

    Barry, Thanks for posting that. For the confused, what he's shown is how to configure the use of a Windows Group Policy to configure computers in the domain to configure proxy settings for HTTPS traffic.  It is possible/recommended to do this for HTTP traffic as well, although the use of the transparent redirection of outbound HTTP traffic makes this unnecessary.  The caveats of this configuration are that computers which do not connect to the domain do not get these proxy settings and so are able egress the network without filtering as long as they use SSL.  A good way to enforce the use of the proxy settings is to block outbound SSL to the internet which does not originate from the proxy box itself. Again, great post Barry!  Might need to sticky it.

    @wagonza sweet! changing the gateway to .252 I started getting internet access! Awesome. @mhab12 I did change the webgui to https. I started playing with the captive portal and started having issues. We realized that it appears the the captive portal and webgui must be using the same port (either 80 or 443) otherwise it wouldn't work. Since this is our test environment, we just left it on http. We still need to tweak the FW rules but overall i think we are all set. Thank you both for the suggestions on how to get this setup and working. I can't wait to try out the other PFSense functionality. Sijis
