After running the kldstat command it turns out the module is not running, however when I attempt to run it, it gives me back an error saying to check the dmesg, after checking, it says "KLD if_atlantic.ko: depends on kernel - not available or version mismatch" followed by "linker_load_file: Unsupported file type" I'm not sure if I do not have the driver installed for the correct version of FreeBSD, I may have accidentally installed the one for FreeBSD 12, I will have to check later in the week however I will be unable to access the firewall for a few days.

It depends what you want to achieve. For educational purposes building your own device is a good choice. In terms of supporting the development of the project purchasing a device from us is better.

You will easily hit 500/500 Mbps over OpenVPN. I only have 500/500 from my ISP, so i can't test and see if the VPN goes higher.

@mhweb I'm also looking at this scenario...repurpose a spare i5-6500 box or build something else. Which did you decide? I have gigabit FiOS and also want to maximize using VPN.

Yeah pretty much don't get that. If you must use a wifi card in pfSense, because reasons, then choose an older Atheros based card. Something based on the AR9380 is about as good as you can get, N450, until athp is working well. Steve

That is probably a better choice in my opinion. Though you are paying for quiet, small and low power there and seemingly might not need to. You are also getting up towards the cost of our own devices there when you have added ram and storage. Steve

There are no build tools in pfSense, you cannot run 'make'. But why are you trying to build em? The driver is already loaded. Those instructions are for an ancient version of FreeBSD anyway. Steve

I had a chat with my friend and he is fine with the desktop size box as it will sit in his basement closet. I guess I just have to find a old i5 based desktop and a Intel 340-T2 or T4 card for him. He doesn't want to go up too much in the budget however.

@akuma1x I have also used AC Infinity external USB fans. First for a game console and then another for this fanless Qotom box. It did help, but replacing the paste helped MUCH MORE. I have another fanless machine and plan on doing the paste for it later this week.

I you have not bought it I would look for something newer. It would probably be fine for what youi have now but not if you get a faster WAN or want to run a bunch of packages etc. Also that device is old, you have to think it might just stop working at any point. Steve

@fredmunhoz At the time, solvent by unplugging the CD / DVD drive. I did not find another solution. I have the same Firewall (hardware) but I have been updating. I have the 2.4.5-p1.

There is no support for 802.11AC in pfSense. So even if you find a .ac card that has a driver it will only operate in N mode. See: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/wireless/hardware.html Steve

Number of clients is not really a good measure for pfSense. You're very unlikely to hit the limits if the state table. Total throughput and how much of that might need to be over VPN are what you should be considering. Steve

Yeah that looks good. It might have reported something higher on the first charge cycle. I would expect it to change a bit after a few more cycles as it learns. Steve

Supermicro have their own card that will definitely work in that, AOC-SGP-I4. That's the card we use, you can buy it from us even. Are you looking for a new card only? If not there are some good guides out there for which OEM cards use which chipsets. I think the serve the home forum has one. Edit: Yup: https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/list-of-nics-and-their-equivalent-oem-parts.20974/ Steve
