      @cswroe
      Only a minor issue here.

      Two or three days ago the GUI reported that 23.09 was available. I clicked on the upgrade button. After several minutes, nothing at all happened and the router was still on 23.05.

      The next day I tried again and the upgrade went extremely smoothly.

          I'm curious about Netgate 2100 owners specifically. What has your experience been upgrading the 2100 from 23.05.1 to 23.09?

            @terryzb I did my 2100 via remote, and it newer came back up on its own. I had to have someone remove power from it, and then it came back up. It had installed 23.09 and it booted on it after the power removal, but all the packages were still the version I ran on 23.05.1
            I used the “reinstall all packages “ feature and after that no further trouble.

            But this is the first time I had a update “fail” on me, and I assume it was related to me not removing the packages before the update as recommended by Netgate.

            Luckily the old packages did not cause enough havoc to prevent it from booting entirely.

            Love the no fuss of using the official appliances :-)

              @keyser Thank you for the write up. I'm a little nervous about upgrading because of problems with the 2100's and a previous update. Any 2100 owners with smooth upgrades?

                I have a reliable backup / recovery process that I know I can use for recovery; therefore, I don't worry about upgrades failing (or any other disaster). Specifically, I have a USB drive with my current pfSense version and configuration file that can be used to boot my Netgate device. I found the documentation for this here.

                So, everyone else may or may not have problems with their upgrade but if I am prepared, I don't worry.

                  I read through the links you provided, but didn't find anything about how to create a bootable USB backup and how to use it to recover. Any further docs?

                  Thank you.

                    @hspindel https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/netgate-2100/reinstall-pfsense.html

                    Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
                    When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

                      @MaxK-0 Thanks, I appreciate the response. I also use the upgrade process @SteveITS linked above and do them via the console to keep an eye on things but I'd rather avoid the downtime and hassle if others are having problems.

                        @SteveITS Based on the advice I opened a ticket and received the download links for 23.05.1-RELEASE (arm64) as well as 23.09.

                        From the URL, I am trying to familiarize myself on flashing the system with firmware. From what I gather I will connect my windows laptop to CONSOLE (figure 2) and the firmware into USB (Figure 1)

                        Do I need anything installed in my laptop ?

                          @netboy I would just upgrade normally unless you run into problems. Backup plans are always a good idea.

                          You’ll need a terminal program as described in
                          https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/netgate-2100/connect-to-console.html
                          Putty is good.

                          The reinstall process sounds complicated but on Arm devices it’s just copying the USB image to the device. Just print out the directions or print to PDF.

                                I just did my 2100 with no issues using the serial terminal. Looks like everything went smoothly. More to check out but it worked.

                                  @netboy Did mine last night. No issues with the upgrade (wait the normal 10-15min). I am aware of this which is not related to it being a 2100:

                                  Also a System Patches package update released recently with several patches for 23.09.

                                      I just upgraded my 2100 with no problems. I uninstalled Avahi and pfBlockerNG, rebooted from the USB console, then updated from the USB console. Took about 10 minutes, then reinstalled Avahi and pfBlockerNG and installed the recommended System Patches. Everything appears to be working properly.

                                      Well done Team Netgate!

                                            I have an SG2100 and the update bricked my firewall. I had to roll back to previous kernel and then do a full reset and upgrade AGAIN from the CLI on the console. I seem to have lost all my configs.
