Questions about Traffic Shaping in 2.0
-
I have 2x 6mbit/768kbit DSL connections setup and working beautifully with pfSense. I want to setup traffic shaping, but I'm having some speed issues. I've browsed the forums, I bought the book, but I still have questions. =)
I just want a basic setup. DNS gets highest priority, ACK packets are next, then Xbox 360 and browsing the web, then everything else like IRC/IM/Streaming Media and then at the bottom of the pile is bittorrent. However, I want bittorent to be able to use all of the available bandwidth for downloads, but at such a low priority it gives up that bandwidth for anything else. And is it possible to give traffic like http (port 80) high priority, but drop it to low priority like bittorent if someone is downloading a large file?
Thanks. I've picked up a lot reading the forums and playing with the system, but traffic shaping is the thorn in my side…

I guess you are like in my shoes, I needed multi-wan but pfsense has not so great Traffic Shaping, so I threw a 3rd party firmware supported router of myr choice in front of pfsense to do the traffic shaping.

Yeah, I'm just tempted to put something like NetBalancer or CfosSpeed on my Windows machines and let the software handle the QOS instead of the router. Doesn't help me where the Xbox is concerned, but I'll survive. ;)

Actually if you use something like Tomato (highly recommended), dd-wrt, or openwrt, and connect those items, such as your xbox or any game console to it, and let Tomato/etc do the QoS then you wouln't need cfos/netbalancer.
