I'd expect 8125 NICs to work fine. Support for those is in 1.98.
That indicates the system does not have an interface with a subnet covering that IP for the kernel add it to. Usually it means the WAN has gone down and that IP is the WAN gateway.

Check the bios for any sort of USB power saving features that might be shutting down the NIC at reboot.
