    Looking for a little help or to see if anyone has seen this issues on their networks.

    I was looking through my DHCP active client list last night and noticed that there were 8 connections, with the same host name of VELVET, and being assigned IP addresses from the pool.

    I find this to be very odd as never would I name a system VELVET...

    My first thought was to setup a LAN Rule and block all traffic from the host name VELVET ... but, I do not think that is possible with pfsense.. or, am I wrong about that?

    I am using version pfsense 2.5

    Thank you for reading and let me know if I can provide any other information.

      @kjemison1966

      Example : you buy a bunch of wall outlets that are wifi controlled.
      Out of the box, the can all have the same host name.

      If they have a GUI, change that host name for a more useful one. Like socket-1 socket-2 etc.

      Or go to Services > DHCP Server > LAN and make the pool a bit smaller.
      Like 192.168.1.1 is pfSense
      Pool : 192.168.1.100 -> 192.168.1.254 will be the pool.
      192.168.1.2 -> 192.168.1.99 is now available.

      Go to the bottom of the page.
      For every device on your network, take the MAC, assign it a IP from 192.168.1.2 -> 192.168.1.99, add your own useful host name.

      And done.

      No "help me" PM's please. Use the forum, the community will thank you.
      Edit : and where are the logs ??

        @kjemison1966 FYI :
        It's mostly found in WIFI controlled Network same hostname of devices:

        Reason:

        1. Large no of IP blocks like (10.0.0.0/16)
        2. Your firewall not running in all day (open and close in office timings) due to this IP leases is not cleared properly.

        Solution:

        1. Use Subnetted IP as per requirements
          2.Make your DHCP lease expire in a short time duration

        These solution is for dynamic DHCP leases only.

        Thanks
