Online translation server (POOTLE)

  • Hello!

We need help translating pfSense so we installed a translation server similar to Ubuntu's Launchpad/rosetta.

Please visit http://www.pfsense.com:8080/projects/pfsense/ if you know multiple languages and help us translate!

If you don't see your target language then let me know and I'lll add it to the project.

    Thanks!

  • It looks like it needs a version bump to 0.10 to support traditional Chinese, I see v0.10rc4 supports Hong Kong & Taiwan traditional Chinese on the WordForge pootle server.

Its a shame m0n0wall doesn't want to support l10n, and that FreeNAS went a strange custom route, it would be very productive to have all four projects on the same pootle server if they all share the same fuzzy catalogue.

Can you host the translation files for the miru directory server too?  How come you aren't using a more convenient link like http://translate.pfsense.org?

  • As I've seen, there are some errors in the german translations, e.g. wieder herstellen –> wiederherstellen. Whats about a possibility to change false terms, either of syntactical or grammatical type?

I know, thats not a really serious kind of matter, but if many people will do their best to translate the GUI, the result has to be perfect, shouldnt it?

BTW: Don't worry bout my good-broken-english, my native language is REALLY better!

    Wolf

  • Also, please do not ask me to add languages if you don't plan on translating them.  These things do not translate themselves and I surely don't know any other languages except for Klingon which is not elgible.

  • Uhm, google supports klingon  ;D

I will committed to translate to Indonesian if they are available in the project page.

  • Hmm ..

I can't reach http://www.pfsense.com:8080/projects/pfsense/ .. it just sits there and tries to load the page. I want to contribute to the french version, any idea why the site's not accessible?

  • Pootle is back up after python took a dump all over itself.

Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike Python?  No?  Well I hate it.

    Enjoy the pootle server.

  • Down again?

  • Seems ok here.

  • The Translation server is down for me aswell. have tried for days.. so thought i could do a post about it.

  • I can access it. Just tried.

  • down for me to
i think my isp is bloking port 8080 ??

  • Its not down for me, but the server is slooowwww.  I'll register and work with the spanish translation, I lived in Argentina for a few years, but not a native so it should fairly accurate.

  • Yes, it is sometimes slow.  It's python.  I need to figure out a way to make it faster using lighttpd + some kind of python cache.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • Seems to be running faster now

  • i think i'll try to translate a bit of the german part
(my english teacher wants us to read/write/translate as much english as possible)

Is there any way to see how the strings are in the context?
i.e. "in" is probably "eingehen" (inbound) but there is just no way to tell without knowing in what context it's used.

also is there any way to actually load the not yet finished version on a test pf?

    thanks
    Matthias May

  • how to add turkish/tr translation?

You have to look at the .po file. It will show you in which file the fragment is located. The "problem" is if for example "in" is used at page 1,3 and 5 the translation has to fit the context of this fragment everywhere. I think you should be able to upload your translated file via ssh to a head version of pfSense. Everytihng that is not yet translated will still be shown in english if you switch to an uncompleted language file I think.

  • Now 8080 port don't access
Last operation - upload po file

  • Should be fixed now.

  • @sullrich:

    Should be fixed now.

    Now blocked too
I download PO file and again upload this file - all blocked
if i create po file in poEdit program and store - they message me - 2 error in 2592
msgstr is not valid php format string, unlake msgid. Thet caracter what terminates the directive number 1 is not valid conversion specifier.

IMHO all troubles with translate server - after upload PO file what contains error format.

    –------------
    I fixed 1 error in line 2592 - that content ',' symbol - change to ':' - solved

and this error - i dont know what this
22:31:36: msgfmt: E:\Web DEMO\messages.po: some header fields still have the initial default value
22:31:36: msgfmt: found 1 fatal error

    PS This Russian translate project

  • Hi,
I am from Brazil, and I could finish the translate to Brazilian Portuguese language.

    How works Pootle?
I saw that there is a messages.po file.
Have I to install any software in my computer to use it? If yes, where I download it?

After translated it, how do apply it to my PFSENSE?
Will I only replace this file in my PFSENSE? Or have you to generate a new distro?

Another thing… I saw that the translation to Brazilian Portuguese is VERY BAD!
I think that someone is using google translator or some other web translator.

Another question: How I start to develop to PFSENSE? What is the first step?
Is there a doc teaching how works the PFSENSE and all this structure?

    Thanks
    Hamilton
