I was wondering if building a system with better memory, will it affect the speed of the system when i do a ping / mtr ? or the ram is only used for the OS and not for routing ?

For the entire OS performance it would be even good to clock the cpu & ram so high if you can
and then the entire system will be benefits from the power and speed. But that only the ram speed
or different variant alone is speeding up the ping alone I would say no. This latency would be more
based on the used NIC, the OS driver for the NIC and the network traffic.
