You can set a static DHCP lease but not set static ARP. Normally pfSense would just ARP for the IP and update the MAC in the table but if you mark it static things like this can happen.

@stephenw10 said in Update to 2.8.0 always still starts 2.7.2: Do you have an upgrade or boot log from the failing boot? Unfortunately not. I took a different approach yesterday evening: Installed a fresh 2.7.2. (due to the lack of a 2.8.0 ISO), upgraded this without issues and then restored the saved config. Worked without issues. Thanks for coming back to me.

Is it always at the same place in the install? Have you tried using UFS? That usually requires less memory in my experience.

Yeah it definitely could be more obvious. Maybe even a required step in the installer because the installer itself boots to both consoles.

@fuckmakingaccounttoseelink said in SG115 VGA install screen garbled: VIM commands (because vim is so not freaking simple) You could also use the built-in easy editor ee.

For whatever reason the pkg repo was not available when it tried to fetch them during the config install. Usually that's because the WAN was reconfigured. In that situation you may need to restore a config twice. However since it was only those two packages and you have manually reinstalled them it's not a big issue.

The LAN settings for the installer are used by the installer, but it's not fully implemented yet, and optional. For example, there could be a web-based installer, or you can SSH in and perform some pre-install configuration if needed. As for the WAN/LAN settings being exported to the fresh install, that's in progress and will be in the next installer release, it's already being tested internally.

Just set no gateway or set the WAN to DHCP at the initial assignment. Then access it via the WAN and enable the non-local gateway option. If you really have to you could probably set that at the command line but I'd have to go through and check.

The servers should still be accessible. But I would just reinstall 2.7.2 and restore your config.

@Gertjan it didnt but I did try it earlier on. It was weird the only thing I have changed in months was adding DHCPv6 which is why I set it back to none. I guess it could have just been unrelated and fixed when it rebooted but I thought i should mention it as thats what I did.
