@alirx I have that CWWK 6 port box (the version with the tall heat-sync fins) running PFSense and yea it got hot because the settings are locked-down and not visible on the bios provided by CWWK. Not set optimally by default, that's for sure. There has been at least one 'third party' bios mod for this found on the Serve the Home Forums, (https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/cwwk-i5-1235u-6-port-i226-report.39341/) by user 'fta', you really have to read through the posts and be 100% positive that it is compatible with your board revision before making the attempt. I read through it, opened the case of my router, compared what i had to his and others there and decided to take the chance. Thankfully in my case it worked. With the settings exposed via the modded bios, I was able to apply the recommended settings from that long thread and mine now idles in the mid-upper 20s' c. I've got the 8505CPU btw. But 'out of the box' mine was disappointing, to say the least.

@binhex01 Are you able to provide a link to the ISO? link for that is dead.

The google drive zip i uploaded works for me (tested incognito), not sure what you mean by ISO?. this is a BIOS hack.
-
@binhex01 The servethehome instructions say to use the bios you uploaded inside another ISO, that ISO is to be downloaded from another link (which is now dead), sorry I just checked the readme again and that doesnt use the ISO, so I will try that after I verify I have the right board.

Yes, just to confirm the ISO was only used as a means to extract the utilities required to flash the bios (not the bios itself), this has been done for you and is all included in the zip, so you should be good to go (once verified you have the correct board).

@binhex01 is your N100 still running stable with these settings? I've flashed the unlocked bios succesfully, but I haven't changed any settings. My N100 from Topton keeps freezing/rebooting every +- 24h...

Yep 100% solid, no crashes or hangs whatsoever, of note i am using OpnSense not pfSense.

Me too

May I ask what RAM brand/type you are using?
I'm running with Crucial and memtest shows 0 errors on multiple runs, but the freezing and/or rebooting keeps happening daily. -

I'm running with Crucial and memtest shows 0 errors on multiple runs, but the freezing and/or rebooting keeps happening daily.I went with a prebuilt box with RAM included, no idea what the brand or type it is, sorry, all i can tell you is i have 16GB.
Edit - Looks like i can use 'dmidecode' to extract some of the info you want:-

@binhex01 tnx, that's exact the same as my RAM.
Are these the only changes you've made in BIOS to make it run stable?

@sammyke007 Maybe you are seeing thermal issues, temporarily stick a fan upside down on the top of the unit and see what happens, if it cures it then reapply thermal paste and perhaps buy a fan and strap it to the top (what i did - didn't want thermal throttle).
-
@binhex01 I already have a 120mm fan attached. Idles around +- 25° so that can't be a problem. I've PMed you with an offtopic question.

With the realization that I was very much taking my chances with one of these boxes, I haven't found much information on this particular problem and wonder whether anyone may have any insight. Basically, this is one of the Topton N100 boxes, and no matter what I've tried with SpeedShift ans SpeedStep settings, the dashboard never displays anything but the following:

I can't seem to move the needle off 402 MHz, which is absurd. I know from related threads that these values are reported by the BIOS, so I'm sort of expecting it's something there, but I'm not sure what would be so egregiously wrong as to cause this. The reported clock is so low that my mind of course went to thermal throttling, but the core temps seems to me reported accurately (or at least they change values instead of being fixed) and are hovering right around 38C.
I also considered whether these reported values may just be bogus, but the results of running some openssl benchmarks suggest that they are not, as they came out about 5X slower than a machine I have with an older N5105.
Of course I realize the hardware/BIOS may just be garbage and know it's a risky venture with them, any thoughts of things to try or look for would be much appreciated. Thank you!
I've got the same issue, and CPU is maxing when I max my DL speed (1Gb/s)

Would anyone have a symmary of what needs to be done to unlock the N100 potential ?

@Le_zOU Did you see the post from @binhex01 in this thread? They provided a link to a Google Drive folder that is still active with the BIOS and a write-up of exactly what they did:
https://forum.netgate.com/post/1176905The only known way to address this is to flash an unlocked BIOS and then tweak a few settings (specifically power levels).

@TheNarc thank you !!

@binhex01 THANK YOU !!!
That worked brilliantly once I figured I had to copy the EFI folder to my USB and not the content of EFI :D
CPU Type Intel(R) N100 Current: 2922 MHz, Max: 806 MHz 4 CPUs : 1 package(s) x 4 core(s) AES-NI CPU Crypto: Yes (active) QAT Crypto: NoMax is still wrong, but at least current is correct :D
I didn't manage to install stress-ng thou

@Le_zOU Thanks for following up with your results and glad to hear it worked for you as well. One test I was using as something of a "proxy" for determining processor speed is an openssl benchmark. I'm sure it's not perfect, but I definitely saw huge improvements after I updated the BIOS and tweaked the power settings. The command I was using is:
openssl speed -evp aes-256-gcm
And for reference, here are my results from my N100 system:Doing AES-256-GCM for 3s on 16 size blocks: 3473694 AES-256-GCM's in 2.99s Doing AES-256-GCM for 3s on 64 size blocks: 3067055 AES-256-GCM's in 2.99s Doing AES-256-GCM for 3s on 256 size blocks: 2611390 AES-256-GCM's in 2.98s Doing AES-256-GCM for 3s on 1024 size blocks: 2123333 AES-256-GCM's in 2.99s Doing AES-256-GCM for 3s on 8192 size blocks: 424960 AES-256-GCM's in 2.99s Doing AES-256-GCM for 3s on 16384 size blocks: 281002 AES-256-GCM's in 3.00s version: 3.0.16 built on: reproducible build, date unspecified options: bn(64,64) compiler: clang CPUINFO: OPENSSL_ia32cap=0x4ffae3bfffebffff:0x98c001bc2394a6c3 The 'numbers' are in 1000s of bytes per second processed. type 16 bytes 64 bytes 256 bytes 1024 bytes 8192 bytes 16384 bytes AES-256-GCM 18574.74k 65601.34k 224005.31k 726656.67k 1163453.93k 1534645.59k -

@Le_zOU Looks good! And you helped me out too because it seems like I was unwittingly hobbling my own N100 with a too-aggressive Speed Shift setting. I'd had it at 85 but with some testing, 50 seems to be something of a sweet spot for me.
