@Antibiotic No it’s not possible with NtopNG as it is not a Netflow collector. You need nProbe for that which will “translate” recieved netflows into flows that NtopNG understands and can visualize (with very very little detail might I add as Netflows has no additonal information apart from sender/reciever and volume). The NtopNG package and the product in general is more geared towards visualising and recording traffic details from actual packet captures. This contains MUCH more metadata about the sessions than netflows (DNS names, protocol information and myriads of other things). But pffSense Plus has a builtin Netflow exporter if you have an external netflow collector on hand.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

Anyone else happen to notice that when configuring BFD, if you create a peer and select a profile - after save, re-edit the peer and the Profile is not represented. It appears as "None". You have to check the raw config to determine if the profile was actually assigned to the peer. This is on 2.8.1 (all packages up to date as of the date/time of this post). UPDATE: if re-edit and save (without re-configuring the profile none to what you want) - the save will strip the profile from the peer.

Hi All, I use HAProxy to redirect to a range of https internal resources, this works really well at the moment through the WAN where I have source limits set up, and I can connect to the internal resources from limited external IP Addresses. Given I have tailscale I would like to basically be able to put custom dns entries in to point these hostnames to my pfsense tailscale IP4 address (100.89.148.118) but I am not having any luck getting this working. At the moment, I am just trying to connect to HAProxy using https://100.89.148.118 but it is getting blocked by the firewall. Sep 11 11:55:58 tailscale0 Default deny rule IPv4 (1000000103) 100.89.148.10:53148 100.89.148.118:443 TCP:S I have tried with and without NAT redirecting internally to 127.0.0.1, and I also have rules set up to allow any traffic to and from my tailnets (defined in an alias) but I still keep getting these connections from my other tailscale machines being blocked on the pfsense machine. Can someone give me some pointers on what I am missing because I can see the requests are coming through to the pfsense machine, and in theory the rules should allow it through but I cant see why they don't. I do have tailscale ACL in place, but clearly that is not an issue as the requests are making it through to the firewall. 0/0 B IPv4+6 TCP/UDP TailNets * TailNets * * none Allow across Tailnets 0/0 B IPv4+6 TCP/UDP * * * 443 (HTTPS) * none Allow Tailscale IP4 I also tried adding a EasyRule but because the tailscale0 interface doesn't exist in pfsense it throws an error and won't let me add that rule. Appreciate any help or tips, Cheers.

Ok, I managed to get things working.  Doing log analysis is soooo great using splunk!  I uninstalled all my packages.  I then installed Dansguardian first, then squid3.  I think the first time I had selected the "squid" package vs the "squid3' package.  I then added the following in the Custom Options section of the proxy server settings page: access_log syslog:local5.info squid Hope this helps if anyone else has this issue!

Thanks for you answer. Its good to have an explanation and to see that it is not a faulty configuration but ment that way and yes I would surely appreciate any kind of example configuration. It might give me some hints about a proper setup. If I could wish something for a new version of ds (and NO I don't claim!) it would be a bit more in place help. First time I entered the gui I really didn't know where to start and how the whole system works. Took me a lot of trial and error. BTW I got the /tmp access error directly after a new installation.

@brasilnut: Okay - Let me rephrase my question: Where is this value? It's on the first post of this thread System -> Advanced -> Firewall Maximum Table Entries @pppfsense: I already tried some very high values for the Firewall Maximum Table Entries  with no success (System - Advanced - Firewall Maximum Table Entries = 999999999)

Bill, Thanks v much for the detailed reply, which gives much more info. Can visualise the little boxes and data flow. With snort being an optional package, I guess the only way it can work is to use some sort of hooks in the packet filter for snort inputs and outputs. Thinking streams, but maybe wrong. My confusion was the snort block list report, which sort of suggested that block info was snort generated only. Pfsense is a really great piece of work and it would be good to contribute to the effort at some stage. In particular, getting pfsense running on old Sun hardware. There's a lot of it about, it's cheap, good and it's not X86, which gives added security. Have never worked with or programmed FreeBSD and almost nil experience of interpreted languages, but that could be fixed. Have plenty of old Sun hardware to contribute if anyone is interested in starting a project and can provide support on hardware related issues.. I guess the first thing to do is to try a FreeBSD install. Debian runs fine and installed just about out of the box on a V240 class machine, but no idea how good or stable is the support for FreeBSD on Sparc… Chris

@t3rmin: Great! Many thanks @bmeeks and @ermal! Yep.  Approved and merged.  The pfSense guys have been really busy the last few weeks, and that's the reason it took a bit longer to approve the Pull Request.  I will be posting a new thread in the Packages sub-forum with the release notes. UPDATE:  the release notes are in this thread – http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,68884.0.html Bill

Current status is: antivirus is still not finished gssapi libs from freebsd are still need to run squid(you can get it from any 8.3 freebsd or from my repo) There is something with squid compilation on freebsd with IPV6 that does not listen on configured port if pfsense is not configured with ipv6 option enabled I have not tested this package with squidguard yet but they may work together. ssl filtering is working fine If you want, you can donate/contribute with it to speed up the -dev drop from this package.

@turker: I got this error,  what does it mean? Thanks. pfsense 2.1 x64 [image: CE2OIvk.png] That would indicate that at the instant the Snort binary's output plugin attempted to call the API function to insert an IP address into the snort2c table in the packet filter engine, the engine process was not there or not where the output plugin expected it to be.  The event immediately preceding the error also gives me a clue.  It says the check_reload_status() function in pfSense is reloading the firewall filter.  That may temporarily stop and restart the processes the Snort binary plugin was trying to contact in order to insert the IP address for blocking. @Ramosel: So do you have both squid and HAVP setup as transparent proxies?  If so, you should set HAVP as a "parent for squid" That said, this is not how HAVP blocking will alert you. If HAVP is working you should get a blue and orange graphic screen showing that HAVP has blocked a file. You can test this safely with these downloads at EIECAR http://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html Correct, that is how squid and HAVP are setup - HAVP as "parent for squid" and I do/did get the blue and orange graphic screen stating HAVP blocking. Thx.

The size of the USB stick doesn't matter as much as the size of the CF image that was loaded upon it. For example, if you load a 1GB CF image on an 8GB stick, it would still only have a 512MB OS slice to work with. You might be better off going to 2.1 if you need Avahi. The PBI install mechanism is much simpler/safer than what 2.0.x used.

I have to agree. I LOVE vnstat2, and if it wasn't for the hardware I was using, I wouldn't have went to 2.1 because of vnstat2 not working with it. I greatly miss it, and would really like to have it back as a supported package (without all of the manual hacks).

I had this same issue and found a solution. I first got freshclam to run by creating /var/log/clamav and /var/db/clamav directories and using chown -R clamav clamav to change the ownership. I noticed that /usr/local/etc/rc.d/clamav-clamd was empty.  I copied the contents from /usr/pbi/dansguardian-amd64/etc/rc.d/clamav-clamd into it.  I then created a new file /usr/local/etc/rc.d/clamav-freshclam and copied the contents of /usr/pbi/dansguardian-amd64/etc/rc.d/clamav-freshclam into it. After a reboot the clamav service started and I was able to use DG to filter web traffic with clamav enabled.

2.7.9 pkg v.4.3.3 Is this a known problem? I was a bit hesitant to try other versions as I've tweaked the web interface somewhat as shown HERE. Thanks, Steve
