    I believe I’m having this issue, and have been for some time now. I always wondered why sometimes PPP would drop, and I’d drive out to site only to do a reboot and everything works. Sometimes I’d even have people put on site reboot for me, but it wouldn’t work. Is there any update on this issue?

    Below log is newest on top, so read in reverse.

  • $50 tutorial - dynamic bandwidth sharing

    @NABAMB:

    Yes It is possible with Pfsense.

    What I can achieve is

    When single user is connected it gets all the bandwidth.
    When 2 users are connected the bandwidth gets 1/2, as soon as socket of one users disconnects the other gets total speed.
    for 3 users 1/3 .   The speed variation depends on socket timeout delay. Usually it is so minimum that it will not be noticeable.

    Nice. I can give you 50$ for a tutorial to do just that.
    If you also know how to do a fair share, but need a greater compensation, just ask.

    I need the tutorial to be a step by step text with screenshots, or a step by step video with subtitles.
    I'd prefer you to distinguish the procedure to limit upload from the procedure to limit download.
    The one I need the most it the upload limit.
    Edit: that's because I may not always need to limit the download

    @mikesamo:

    Hello,

    I need to get this agent install on pfsense appliance.

    http://mathias-kettner.de/check_mk_download.html

    http://mathias-kettner.de/download/check_mk-1.2.0p3.tar.gz

    the freebsd agent is inside agents.tar.gz

    and a way to update the package myself for upcoming version of the binary.

    Thanks,

    Hey,

    do you still need that done?
    I could complete it within a few days, mostly depending on how long I need learn how to package for pfSense.

    I wrote the README.FreeBSD :)

    I've fixed the widescreen package for version 2.0.3, and created a simple way to install it via an alternate package repository.

    If I remember correct you can disable firewall and NAT capabilities from "system –> advanced" so these parts will not be loaded if you do not need it.

    And in system --> UserManager you can create a user which has only access to the DHCP console and not the other options. So you can narrow down the existing product to only do what you need: DHCP.

    This is not so easy to define and implement.
    You would at least need some kind of accounting service and statistic colletion.

    A way to define a policy based on accounting.

    Another way to apply the policy when it is reached.

    If you have better budget probably worth going through portal.pfsense.com since the implications in the pfSense are a bit drastic in terms of changes.

    This is awesome, I'm currenly using HAProxy 1.5 in a jail on my PfSense box for SSL Termination, it works great!  But, I'll be even happier to get this in an easy to install pfsense package!

    Here's some stuff I learned that might help others..

    HAProxy

            option forwardfor         option http-server-close         reqadd X-Forwarded-Proto:\ https

    The 'forwardfor' is because most backends don't yet support HAProxy's proxy protocol.
    I use the 'X-Forwarded-Proto' header to see if requests are ssl in varnish / nginx.
    The 'http-server-close' tells haproxy it needs to close the connection to the backend. this is so it resends the ip+protocol header for each request. This is better then closing the entire connection with 'httpclose' as the client may quickly request more stuff before the timeout and you won't have the overhead of stating a new connection.

    Varnish

    if ( !client.ip ~ haproxy )                 {set req.http.X-Forwarded-For = client.ip; set req.http.X-Forwarded-Proto = http;}

    This way clients can't spoof their IP, or that they are using https

    NGINX

    set_real_ip_from 192.168.1.1; real_ip_header X-Forwarded-For; http {         map $http_x_forwarded_proto $server_https {                 default off;                 https on; } ##fastcgi_params## fastcgi_param HTTPS $server_https; ####

    I'm pretty sure I said openvpn no encryption and others max. Others were still faster on windows base pc at least. I am running openvpn now on pfsense box with 128bit encryption and speed is close to what I was getting with m0n0wall mod as pptp client to vpn service. Would still like to see l2tp implementation though. My AMD computer does not accelerate AES. I've checked because of tru-crypt and windows native encryption the bit locker or what ever it is called is not compatible with my comp because of that reason.

    Why not just host your own radius server?  Software is like $150 and hosting is like $29 per month at Linode.com.  Vendor will even do initial setup for free on the server!  That way you can use the secondary radius option in CP!  You could probably get away with a simple linux OS at Amazon!

    Ok.  Do not use Linode.com

    My CC expired and I never received a notification from them via email.  All of a sudden I logged in and because my billing was behind by 22 days they deleted my Linux VM's.  No recovery possible.  Beware.  I would not recommend using Linode!
