I would imagine that it would VLAN as an AP just fine?

Making a SOHO router an AP just means turning off DHCP, NAT, DNS, NTP, ACLs, QoS, (basically all optional services it provides that pfSense does instead).

I wouldn't think that turning those off disables VLANs, but then I've never tried.

I'd say back up the working config on your current router, then try to get it working as an AP with VLAN's, worst case just restore it to a working config and buy a switch that works.

you have to select :

"Allow packets to pass between wireless clients directly when operating as an access point"
in menu : interface > (WIFI interface) > "Network-Specific Wireless Configuration"

(pfsense 2.3.3)

Idf not selected, it works in isolated mode.

Ok so I've changed the DNS servers to google servers on the WIFI interface and that solved my problem.

Anyway I'm wondering why this happens? and Why just in one interface

If anyone comes with an idea I would appreciate the answer.

Oh, I was just going with what was available on the main downloads page.  I get an "access denied" when I click on your link.  I have a forum account - not sure why I can't access it.

That fixed the problem.  Not sure why it worked before, and then not two days ago with this option unchecked.  But it works now after checking it.

I worked!!! its been 4 days since  I am trying to solve this thanks a lot! oh that gateway was me trying things I don't fully understand to make it work. I haven't done my Networking and OS's class yet so everything I now is from messing with stuff. Thanks a lot you saved my week!

Can't wait for the AC versions to start coming out.. This is perfect reason to just save yourself time and effort and grief and just get a real AP..  Prob a few of them - since unless your in a small open area at 5ghz and good wifi you going to want more than just the 1 AP..

I can't tell you what they all do but in general if you don't have a reason to change something that is already working then don't.

The Country Regions (both 2.4 & 5 GHz) is a legal thing. Radio emissions are regulated by law. So select whatever country you live in and it will only allow you to use legal channels. It looks like you are in America as you currently have Channels 1-11 selected. So leave that as is.
What you can do to improve performance though is download something like Acrylic WiFi Home and it will show you which channels are in use in your area. Select a channel (1-11) that is either not used for lightly used and you will get better performance on your network.

Radio on/off is just that, turn your wifi radio on or turn it off.

Multimedia / Gaming Environment is probably some kind of QoS, unless you have problems with either of these things I would leave it off.

Personally I like to configure the rules as shown in the attached screenshot.

Some people prefer not to use the inverted match ! (not) rule as it can appear confusing.

I just want to report that I was successfully able to configure my WLE200NX (9280) PCIe card as an AP running at  5 ghz on channel 64 installed on my APU2c4 board that I use as my AP / firewall using PF on OpenBSD 6.0, without having to mod anything. I just switched to chan 64 on hostname.athn0 and just restarted the adapter, and it worked! Again no MODS!  So yes, the chipset supports 5 ghz on AP mode. Does anyone know what other channels are available to run at 5 ghz other than 64. thanks!

The issue could be related to Init, not Dial string. Custom init string should be set to ATZ (just Z in the web GUI as I recall).

All working fine now with the additional tweaks. Everything is behaving more like I'd expect now, without needing to mess with IGMP proxies.

Get an real AP vs some card in pfsense.. Unifi makes some good ones.. Can be had for less than $100 AC lite model..

Pfsense no longer sells internal wifi cards, they recommend the unifi stuff if you want wifi..  Save yourself a lot of headache, going to have way better coverage.. Just pretty much zero reason to try and use some wifi card as your AP..  When you can just pick up a actual AP..
