    There is two ways to doing this.

    Move the CF card to another system. Make sure to configure the correct drivers for the interfaces and setup the LAN IP.

    Use a FreeBSD or pfSense machine, VMware works great for this, and mount the pfSense embedded image file. Change the configuration and then write it to the flash card. This is the method I do when I upgrade my pfSense box so I don't have to manually configure anything.

    If interested in #2 you can check out the sh-mount-image.sh and sh-replace-config.sh scripts at http://wgnrs.dynalias.com/pfsense/

    As far as the RJ45 to serial adapter would a Cisco console cable work? I know they are RJ45 to serial, just not sure if the pin out is the same. If so you should be able to pick one up for cheap.

    devfs is a virtual file system.  You can't add more space to it - it will always take as much space as is required.

    Generally, anything that doesn't have a path starting with /dev as the second field of the fstab or output of "mount" is a special file system.

    Oh, and general good principle to operate by - if it isn't broken, don't fix it (also known as, if you don't have a problem, don't go looking to create one unless you know what you're doing).

    I am very interested in this to but I was looking at the Alix 3C2 because that has 256MB of RAM. I would be very interested to know what sort a though put you can get with this down an IPSEC tunnel. I like to run snort etc so that is prob smallest M/B.

    I was looking at the Jetway boards but they do put the prie up by alot.

    Anyone tested the alix with snort and VPN tunnel?

    If the modem does the PPPoE your pfSense WAN might simply run as dhcp. Did you ever try that?

    Unfortunately it did not either, actually when I reset to factory defaults, this is where pfSense hangs on startup, I had to take off the cables so could time out

    @sullrich:

    Remote syslog.

    I got that … it's fine for the debug,
    it's great for the monitoring too  ;D
    It is just that once things are running ok, i might not need to syslog all the time. ( or when I am not here)
    I will probably syslog to the dmz

    I dig into the rc script and found  out the 'clog' things (embedded yeah i got that ! and probably for speed) ... so I see it's not a config option  >:(
    what if  ...  ???

    look what I found  :D http://www.mail-archive.com/support@pfsense.com/msg11745.html

    well I will see later  8)

    I would not think so; I sure don't have a need.  Maybe this setting should be default then?

    yes, the process is basically the same like when writing the image to a cf-card.

    @heiko:

    Really, please try rc5, it is the latest snapshot..

    Maybe, a broken CD ?

    http://snapshots.pfsense.org/FreeBSD6/RELENG_1_2/iso/pfSense.iso.gz (Live CD)
    http://snapshots.pfsense.org/FreeBSD6/RELENG_1_2/updates/pfSense-Full-Update-1.2-RC5.tgz

    Greetings
    Heiko

    The rc4 was even hanging so I installed the developer version
    http://snapshots.pfsense.com/FreeBSD6/RELENG_1_2/iso/pfSense-1.2-RC4-Develops-LiveCD.iso

    and its working fine.

    Now I want to knw whats the difference b/w standard and developer editon.
    And How do I upgrade to standard rc5 installation, Is it possible?
