@baggyp said in New to pfSense and am looking for help with my Solarflare 10g card:

This is a home box I'm building just to give it a try and am not familiar with pfSense or Linux and any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

pfSense is not running Linux as an OS underneath. It's FreeBSD. If and how your card is working with FreeBSD you have to check there:

    https://www.freebsd.org/releases/11.1R/hardware.html#ethernet

Also have a look at the dmesg output if the card shows up at all.

Well, with a small amount of work I was able to grab the most time-consuming stuff for import: IP aliases and DHCP config (including all the reservations). Works great so far.

Now to continue testing and see if the panics I was seeing on the other firewall are hardware-related or (my suspicion) HardenedBSD-related.

If I had more time I'd be a true nerd and make a configuration transmogrifier that lets you flip-flop between these two vendors.. :)

@scurrier said in HOW TO: 2.4.0 ZFS Install, RAM Disk, Hot Spare, Snapshot, Resilver Root Drive:

@kevindd992002 did you ever find an answer to this? I want to rebuild my system with zfs for more robustness and copies=2 would be some nice additional protection on my single SSD system.

Not really. No one from this thread seems to want to talk about this further :(

There is no direct equivalent to sar on FreeBSD that I'm aware of. What is your goal, specifically? There may be a better way to achieve it.

@bryanrh Unfortunately not. Besides which these are two fundamentally different products; the only way to do that sort of migration is by hand.

This is pfSense : The sheer mass has access to your LAN interface 😨

More general : I've a couple of dedicated mail/web/fool-around servers on the net, which I consider as the real "mass", for many years now. They all have SSH on port 22. And fail2ban (pfSense has the same facility build in) to deal out "one week" penalties.

Btw : more or less fake, but works pretty well just up until now : de activated IPv4 - use only IPv6. You'll experience the silence ... ^^

    KIds could use this

for ip is 1 to 4294967296 do ...

    This

for ip is 1 to 340282366920938463463374607431768211456 do ....

    needs more reflection.

@allinarush said in Cannot get WAN port to light up:

    There is no error

    Goto console mode.
    Option 8.
    Type

    dmesg

and look for any NIC messages .
    Something there ?

Another test : connect the WAN cable to another device like a switch.
Use another cable that works on another interface.

Worst case : WAN port out. Not a big deal because you have spare - identical - ports (the OPT1-OPT4) - pick any and declare it WAN..

    Hello again,

I have resolved the second "no boot device" issue. I had to disable AHCI. It works fine in IDE mode with Legacy boot.

I'd LIKE to resolve these problems if possible as I'd preferably like to run with UEFI and AHCI enabled.

Thanks for your answer. Indeed when I reboot, I don't see the error coming back.

I have occasionally seen that. That page is what shows when it is running a firmware upgrade since that is also pkg based. If you see that page it is because a pkg update is already running and it's trying to show you the output from that.
When I have seen it it's because the process has stalled for some reason. I would expect a reboot to clear it or you can usually manually kill the existing update process and restart it.

    Looks like that's probably pre-UEFI so I doubt that's a factor.

Yeah there was some odd stuff when SATA first started to appear, like appearing as IDE devices...

I would look at the device modes available in the BIOS for the SATA ports.
