    tirsojrp,
    seems to me that there is a risk of damaging the motherboard doing this.
    Have you done it yourself?

    So the problem here is simply that the modem is not given enough time to initialise at boot?

    You could try increasing the value of kern.cam.boot_delay or autoboot_delay in loader.conf(.local).

    Of course is possible. Electronics get more efficient all the time. I just replaced a 100Tx switch drawing 10 watts with a Gigabit switch drawing 3 watts.  10x more pleasure at 1/4 the cost! :)

    this is the route i would go: https://store.netgate.com/MBT-4220-system.aspx

    does AES, intel has a fan to keep it coool  you just need a simple switch

    FYI.  i have a SG 2220 with a 120Mb connection at nearly full speeds and it never goes above 46 degrees C

    HIGHLY recommend netgate products.

    It seems the iDRAC6 virtual console likes the older sc console better.
    Adding the following line to /boot/loader.conf.local fixed the line cutting on my R210II:

    kern.vty=sc

    Then you can play around with different video modes using vidcontrol. https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?vidcontrol(1)

    Even the "magnification" of the chip in the above postet image is from a different device, look at the components surrounding it.

    Out of curiosity, what does your Init-String look like?

    Something along these lines?

    AT&F&C1&D2E0S0=0M1

    Because according to the information given to me:

    M0 or M Speaker off, completely silent during dialing M3 is also common, but different on many brands M1 Speaker on until remote carrier detected (i.e. until the other modem is heard) M2 Speaker always on (data sounds are heard after CONNECT)

    Removing the M1 at the end fixed it for me.

    @SammyWoo:

    Afraid so.

    I would… try another slot if available.  Use compressed air can on slot as well as NIC board in general in case of lose metal shavings present.

    Go another PCIe card to rest, in case is the Mobo.

    Got your 12v, Extended Power Plug hooked up (if any), lots of people miss it.

    Thanks. The J3355B is a mini-ITX board, so only 1 PCIE slot is available. It also only has a 24-pin power connector which I did connect.

    I don't have any other PCIE card available, but I can try to connect the NIC to my FreeNAS box and see if the same issue crops up. If so, then I will RMA, but if the FreeNAS board starts up without a problem, then I am not sure what to do. I will perform this test tonight hopefully.

    It should be no more difficult connecting to multiple carriers than one assuming you have hardware that will do it.

    You won't get LTE speeds unless your device present the connection as Ethernet. So either an entirely external device actually connected via Ethernet or a device that appears to the OS as a NIC, usually USB.

    Devices that appear as com port modem will not reach LTE speeds, you are limited by the PPP connection. However they also work 'best' with pfSense currently as removing a com port or losing the ppp is something it is configured to deal with. Removing a configured interface is not.
