@monstermaxx said in Tmobile 5G hotspot and PFsense: Should I set the tmo interface to be tier 2 so it's on the cable modem unless there's a fail? Yes, I would do that. Also be aware that some types of connections can maintain their states indefinitely so will not fail back to the cable modem if they get pushed to the cell link. Steve

Ah, right I'd forgotten it ran correctly in Linux. Hmm, bizarre indeed. Only so much time you can spend diagnosing stuff...

Yes, our FreeNAS uses a X520-DA2, I will try hard-coding the speed/duplex on both the pfSense box and switch to see what comes of it and reply back after, thanks!

It depends what the traffic is. Given a large number of connections and routing/firewalling only then it should be possible to take advantage of a large number of cores. If you want to see the highest throughput when testing from a single client against speedtest.net then fewer cores at a higher frequency is going to give better results. That also applies traffic passing any other process that is single threaded as mentioned. So typically Snort or OpenVPN.

Hmm, hard to say. You might swapping the ix and bce/bge NICs to see if the errors follow them. That might not be possible with the media types you have.

Indeed it depends on the hardware. Many devices have a SIM slot that's wired to the miniPCIe/m.2 connected to provide that. The Netgate 2100, 3100, 6100 do. As well as many older devices. Steve

Well if you just pulled the power that is the time both things would be likely to happen. Or perhaps at power up in the case of a drive sensor. But it's not that surprising both things could happen across one power cycle.

OK, until today I got it working. A miniPCIe card with U-blox LEA6-T chipset, for ~12 € at eBay.de together with an miniCPIe to USB adapter and a active GPS antenna plus an extra connection cable from the card to the antenna. All was done and working in 45 minutes ou of the box! Hmm, curious. Maybe some fixes in some underlying driver removing whatever was preventing it being seen. There wasn't anything that would do that explicitly I'm aware of.

I wouldn't expect there to be any. No different in 2.7 either. I could just about imagine a floating block all rule might apply to localhost. But probably not from localhost also. I've never tried to block that!
