I have the same issue, but with a proliant dl380 running the latest build.

Is there anyway to install the freebsd proliant tools?  http://people.freebsd.org/~jcagle/  :'(  or can the developers create a package?

The issue is that when the system board senses a high temp alert, it kicks the fan into high speed and without software it remains in high speed until you reboot the box.

Mentioned this on IRC but I'll mention it again here for the archives. It should just be a matter of going to System > Advanced, then check "Serial Terminal", and Save. That should activate the serial console on the next boot.

At what point in the install does it only see 2 interfaces?
If you have finished the install and have only WAN and LAN then you will need to assign the other three interfaces before you can use them.
The four Soekris interfaces should appear as vr0, vr1, vr2 and vr3.

I can't speak from personal experience but the Alix boards generally enjoy a very good reputation.
They are capable of firewall/NAT at 85Mbps so should be easily capable in your situation.

That first pic is the inside of an X-Core box (not an X-Core-e). It will have 6 NICs.

The second pic is the inside of a box I have not seen before but I suspect it is the older 1000 model (no X). These older Firebox II and III models had no LCD on the front and the NICs are all at the back. The firmware on these is stored on a chip on the board.

i allredy tried, of course i set it like first lan :D with subnet and dhcp range and enable dhcp …but it refuse to assigne ip's to clients, but now it's ok i found another solutions , i assigned another interface and enable ppoe server on it :D it's better with authentification also enable trafic shaper on this interface, so now i had one lan with dhcp , one wan ppoe and one another interface with ppoe server for clients, thx for help ! all the best

You could look into the D-link DGS-1210-16 smart switch.  It comes with 16 GBe ports + 4GBe SFP ports and supports VLANs as well as LACP.
Alternatively, the SRW-224G4 from Linksys has 24 10/100 ports and 4 GBe ports is priced similarly.

In this case, you only need 1 GBe NIC on the pfsense rig that supports VLANs.

I think if it is not to much more for the 8GB why not get it. But on other hand if you don't plan to use packages that will use a lot of RAM. 2-4GB should be plenty, like others have said.

It should be recognised and just work.
"/boot/"is a directory in the root of the pfSense install. It contains the file loader.conf.local which has options passed to the kernel at boot time.

Thank you all for your responses and HELP !!!

BUT, I have gone back to the old DSL link and written off this aborted try at UVerse.  The speed
was an improvement, but not enough to justify the grief and time it was taking with all the
customer no-service / support calls.

It seems to work great if you have a single dynamic or static IP but start to do any real business
services behind the demark and you are just asking for trouble and issues.

One other consideration for those that come across the thread..

The Soekris units 5501 & 6501 both now have a 1RU rack mount case option with internal A/C an HD options…

Although I know of a number of installs using the Netgate and SuperMicro solutions mentioned and all I can say is
"if it's PFSense, it's going to work" !!

Re-installed Lcdproc 0.5.4 v. 0.3 and used the above process and everything worked so this works with the new package as well.
