It mostly looks like ISP problem, so currently I contacted them and support confirmed that network may be unstable because they are upgrading some part of it. Ok let's wait then.

I won't be able to be of much help but for someone else you probably want to detail what you are trying to boot it on in as much detail as possible.

You're welcome! I'm always happy to find that one instance of a function that has changed, causing issues as a result (noting that this apparently is the only instance of that is_numeric() check in pfSense).

Got it figured out... comconsole is likely sending the pfSense boot menu and other status messages to the serial port... when I disable the serial port in my system's BIOS, the messages all appear on the monitor. Not a bad idea, I suppose, if I actually had a serial port to connect to! The motherboard has a header for one, but didn't include a ribbon cable or anything for it. And this is what I get moving my config from a serial console box to a VGA console box... duh. :) In the Advanced settings, the serial console was selected as the default. Sorry 'bout my stupidity on this one!

I was installing the latest when I loaded it on my box... but mere hours later (like 5 or 6), a new snapshot was released and I updated to it. I'll update my system for the day now, reboot as usual after the update, and see if the Patches error occurs again. If it does, I'll post the info here... and if I can get Snort to error again, I'll see if I can find that report and add to it if necessary. Edit to add: Looks like System Patches is working properly now too... so who knows what I was running into at first.

@stephenw10 Hi Steve, No reason other than we have many of these firewalls in production and haven't gotten to updating. I'll update one and see if the problem goes away and keep you posted.

Easiest way is to gitsync to the latest code. That's how I got past that: pfSsh.php playback gitsync master Then you should see updates. Steve

Problem with firewall logs was due to net.bpf.optimize_writers which I activated. Working fine without this.

@jimp - , that’s entirely fine by me. I mentioned it in case others had the same expectations I did... nothing more, nothing less. Loving your work, as ever.
