@qupfer What did I bang my head over this strange 502 issue. Your solution did it! Thank you so much, even 2.5 years later!

@NRgia said in Suricata on Pfsense: @bmeeks Thank you for what you did for Snort or Suricata. I'm not sure what you want me to do on Redmine, due to is a bug tracker. My question is for Product Management, which I will ask it here to be public: What is the plan for these 2 packages, Suricata and Snort? Thank you Yes, Redmine is for both bug reports and feature requests. Asking for the Suricata binary to be updated to the latest 7.0.11 version from upstream is a legitimate Redmine request. I would suggest simply asking for the binary version update instead of asking about future Netgate strategy (such as the support plans for the packages). Strategy discussions typically don't get very far because they deal with proprietary information or plans that a company may not want to publicly discuss. Redmine is where the Netgate developer team tracks all the code changes they make for pfSense. They will see Redmine reports much quicker than a forum post.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

@tinfoilmatt said in Failed or invalid Mime Type: [application/SIMH-tape-data|0]: (ASN data is IPinfo, not Maxmind) Thats correct but "GeoLite2-Country" is from Maxmind ... (that confused me) I'm considering simply adding "application/SIMH-tape-data" to the list to test. Thats what i tought too ... I'll try when I have the time for it ... Edit: I can confirm - adding "application/SIMH-tape-data" to the list at line 257 in /usr/local/pkg/pfblockerng/pfblockerng.inc did the trick - no more error! Edit: OK, problem resolved but I would like to know, whats the cause for that error! (SIMH-tape-data sounds like a "blast from the past" ...) Thanks a lot!

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@renegade Not here and it works fine - [image: 1755691803117-screenshot-2025-08-20-at-8.09.08-am.png] I don't use the email notifications for available updates. Maybe if you are using that it is confused ? The update to 1.0 was applied when it became available (under 25.07) and the system has since been updated to 25.07.01. the only package the was updated during the 25.07 > 25.07.01 process was Nexus, which went to 25.07.1_1 All other packages (I use) remained untouched when going to 25.07.1

I have Wireguard installed on my firewalls. I have about 12 firewalls and most of them connect back to the main firewall which allows the connection to the servers in the main building. I setup a tunnel on each and then added each location as a peer on the Main firewall. This seemed to work except that the gateway. unde3r Monitor IP it only allows one IP address. So the first one works and shows connected fine, but the other 2 are red and do not connect. Everything seems to work until I added a 3rd peer and then the 1st peer showed as if it was offline even though it looked fine and I was able to connect to devices on that network. Am I supposed to add multiple gateways to the Main firewall so that shows as up? Is this the right way for the tunnels between the buildings which need access will work - By adding a tunnel at that location and just adding a peer to the main location?

Reading another thread (spp_frag3) is a snort preprocessor error. Not sure how to fix it other than to suggest you turn on all the preprocessors to see if that fixes it. As far as whitelisting goes you need to find the offending rule that is blocking the address and create a suppress rule for it in the tab. I "believe" I got it to work by using this syntax. suppress gen_id 1, sig_id 11969, track by_src, ip 216.82.225.24 I tried to get one rule to handle the same sig i.e. suppress gen_id 1, sig_id 11969, track by_src, ip 216.82.222.14 suppress gen_id 1, sig_id 11969, track by_src, ip 216.82.212.10 Edit: This doesn't work. I will try restarting the router and see if anything changes. It is still blocking a category I have recently unchecked. But I was not able to get it to work as above. Haven't had the time to test using a , or ; to separate due to time constraints.

I second that AC-BNFA is the only usable setting for most systems. (My inner geek would love to see a system the handles AC with moderate traffic) My system has 2GB Ram with 3 interfaces running at this setting @ 23% memory usage with low traffic. It is also wise only to choose the categories that are necessary for that particular interface not all categories need to be checked. Use only what you need otherwise you will be wasting CPU time and memory for nothing.

I wasn't the one to install the wireless NIC without an antenna & management doesn't seem to want to get some so that we can use that instead of the router we now use for our wireless connections. I guess in this case I could just un-assign it. I have to admit it but I am somewhat new at using pfSense. Edit 2010-05-14 Well after un-assigning it & then uninstalling & re-installing vnStat the error went away. I still think you might want to look at the code I gave you as it could remove the error for anyone else when they first install vnStat on to their box.

If you don't like using CP, then your only choice would be to somehow (hardcode, group policy, WPAD, etc) put the proxy settings on every workstation directly. That is also the only way you'd be able to control access to HTTPS/SSL sites.

the pfSense router has DHCP enabled, and the LAN card connects to 48 Port switch with 3 vlans, so turning off transparent proxy is not useful to me  :( I suppose i could try non-transparent on one computer to see it i can get it working at all for troubleshooting…

That's a pretty vague report. We'd need a lot more information before we could even speculate on what may or may not be an issue. Do they work when installed separately? Are you sure you have them both properly configured? Any errors in the system logs? Are you on the full install or NanoBSD/embedded?

Many packages are disabled on NanoBSD/embedded because they do not work properly with the filesystem and RAM restrictions of embedded systems.

I will assume that this is the cache for HAVP/Squid? I just tested on a different computer and things are getting by HAVP. (testing with same test pages) Now, some things will get blocked…but others are not. I cleared all cache from IE and FF before testing.
