Request for Continued Support of Squid Package Dear Netgate Team, Could we please continue to support the Squid package? The upstream project has already resolved the known security issues, and it appears the main task remaining is updating the package to accommodate the recent PHP changes affecting the status page and address the decode issue. I’m unsure how to address this on my end and would greatly appreciate any guidance. Has anyone else looked into this, or is there a fix currently in progress? Thank you for your time and support. @NRgia said in Suricata on Pfsense: @bmeeks Thank you for what you did for Snort or Suricata. I'm not sure what you want me to do on Redmine, due to is a bug tracker. My question is for Product Management, which I will ask it here to be public: What is the plan for these 2 packages, Suricata and Snort? Thank you Yes, Redmine is for both bug reports and feature requests. Asking for the Suricata binary to be updated to the latest 7.0.11 version from upstream is a legitimate Redmine request. I would suggest simply asking for the binary version update instead of asking about future Netgate strategy (such as the support plans for the packages). Strategy discussions typically don't get very far because they deal with proprietary information or plans that a company may not want to publicly discuss. Redmine is where the Netgate developer team tracks all the code changes they make for pfSense. They will see Redmine reports much quicker than a forum post.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

@tinfoilmatt said in Failed or invalid Mime Type: [application/SIMH-tape-data|0]: (ASN data is IPinfo, not Maxmind) Thats correct but "GeoLite2-Country" is from Maxmind ... (that confused me) I'm considering simply adding "application/SIMH-tape-data" to the list to test. Thats what i tought too ... I'll try when I have the time for it ... Edit: I can confirm - adding "application/SIMH-tape-data" to the list at line 257 in /usr/local/pkg/pfblockerng/pfblockerng.inc did the trick - no more error! Edit: OK, problem resolved but I would like to know, whats the cause for that error! (SIMH-tape-data sounds like a "blast from the past" ...) Thanks a lot!

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

Buypass is shutting down their free ACME service: https://community.buypass.com/t/y4y130p Not sure how many (if any) users may be getting their ACME certificates from Buypass, but it is supported in the package, so that number may be non-zero. If you are getting your certificates from Buypass, now is the time to switch to another CA.

I have Wireguard installed on my firewalls. I have about 12 firewalls and most of them connect back to the main firewall which allows the connection to the servers in the main building. I setup a tunnel on each and then added each location as a peer on the Main firewall. This seemed to work except that the gateway. unde3r Monitor IP it only allows one IP address. So the first one works and shows connected fine, but the other 2 are red and do not connect. Everything seems to work until I added a 3rd peer and then the 1st peer showed as if it was offline even though it looked fine and I was able to connect to devices on that network. Am I supposed to add multiple gateways to the Main firewall so that shows as up? Is this the right way for the tunnels between the buildings which need access will work - By adding a tunnel at that location and just adding a peer to the main location?

@secs: Me too. I can manualy download the files but snort seems to give up. I dont mind putting them in myself but where do I do them and do I simply put the tar type file there or do I have to uncompress them. I only installed snort today but not one catagory and rule appears…. Ideas? This issue is also being discussed in another thread also on this board and I gave a solution there too. Instructions for manual rule instructions can be found at: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=15464.0 or http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Why_won't_snort_properly_download_rules%3F Basically, you extract the files, and then places the rules in the snort rules folder.

Ok, my bad. The CF card is NOT mounted read-write permanently. I didn't have ssh enabled yet, so I issued the "mount" command via the web interface (Diagnostics > Command > Execute shell command), and concluded from the output that pfsense0 was mounted r/w. Which it was, presumably, just for the duration of the execution of that command… When I log in via ssh, /dev/ufs/pfsense0 indeed shows as mounted read-only. Sorry about the confusion! However, no answer without a new question, I guess: When looking through the logs to see what might be going on, I noticed that snort actually starts twice, back to back. After the first start, I read this: ... Feb 24 22:46:01 pfsense snort[1683]: [ LowMem Search-Method Memory Used : 31.8716 MBytes ] Feb 24 22:46:01 pfsense snort[1683]: [ LowMem Search-Method Memory Used : 31.8716 MBytes ] Feb 24 22:46:01 pfsense snort[1683]: Snort initialization completed successfully (pid=1683) Feb 24 22:46:01 pfsense snort[1683]: Snort initialization completed successfully (pid=1683) Feb 24 22:46:01 pfsense snort[1683]: Not Using PCAP_FRAMES Feb 24 22:46:01 pfsense snort[1683]: Not Using PCAP_FRAMES Feb 24 22:46:02 pfsense SnortStartup[1816]: Ram free BEFORE starting Snort:  -- Ram free AFTER starting Snort: 72M -- Mode lowmem -- Snort memory usage: 139M Feb 24 22:46:03 pfsense check_reload_status: check_reload_status is starting Feb 24 22:46:03 pfsense SnortStartup[1842]: Snort already running... Feb 24 22:46:11 pfsense login: login on console as root Feb 24 22:46:24 pfsense snort[1683]: *** Caught Hup-Signal Feb 24 22:46:24 pfsense snort[1683]: *** Caught Hup-Signal … followed by some statistics, two lines saying "restarting snort" and another startup sequence which to the naked eye seems identical to the first one, down to the PID of the snort process and the exact amount of memory used. It seems to me that this was not the behavior I saw immediately after setting up snort for the first time, as the "Ram free BEFORE starting Snort..." line above was visible in the web interface view of the log. Now this line appears after the first, but not the second startup of snort, and thus is not showing up at the end of the log visible in the web interface any more. I can't recall when this appeared first, so I don't know which configuration changes might have triggered this change in behavior. Possibly the installation of NUT (which is not configured yet)? Is it common to see snort starting twice or should I look for configuration errors ? Thank you jimp for your comments so far, and also for the suggestion of running snort on the LAN side. I'm indeed worried about spyware / viruses / trojans. However, as I stated initially, I have two local machines, on LAN and OPT1 the latter being bridged to LAN. Is it sufficient then to run snort on the LAN or do I need to run it on both to protect both machines? I understand that the default rules I download are designed to work on the WAN. Do I need to manually adapt them to the LAN? That may be more effort than I would be willing to put in… FWIW, running on the WAN, snort does pick up on stuff: IE memory corruption, MSExchange (or Outlook?) exploits... so far all from the web-client category. I don't remember the exact rules that triggered a site block, and since I just rebooted the firewall and snort seems to forget about blocked sites across restarts they're not showing up right now.

No  :( At the moment I have not been an achieve stable work the p3scan port. (p3scan > clamd:TCP) With clamlib this worked very perfect, but clamlib+havp && clamlib+p3scan take many resources and slowly going startup. I consider acceptable only 1 clamd:TCP socket for all applications (only one clamd daemon in system). Maybe next version will be fixed. http://diskatel.narod.ru/p3scan/

@ToxIcon: I am having some issues Denyhost is not blocking anything  its running but their is no log showing it blocking I reinstall same issue also snort Snort-Dev 2.8.4.1_7 pk v. 1.8 stop blocking their is nothing showing up in the block list but I see some alerts, if i go under rules and enable some snort rules and Emerging Threats rules snort stop running and it wont start is their a script to enable all rules instead of having to click the x to enable them tried the old script but did not work could do with some help thanks DenyHosts quit working for me last month and I've tried dozens of times to get it up and running with no luck. I do believe it's related to Snort-Dev but I don't know that for sure. JamesDean seems to be busy and has disappeared from the board.
