@andrew_cb Thank you for the answer In the end it was a problem that any new backend i added just did not register, i confirm it by taking an existing one and overriding it and it worked so i want the nuclear option and just installed the entire pfsense because installing the haproxy did not help.

@NRgia said in Suricata on Pfsense: @bmeeks Thank you for what you did for Snort or Suricata. I'm not sure what you want me to do on Redmine, due to is a bug tracker. My question is for Product Management, which I will ask it here to be public: What is the plan for these 2 packages, Suricata and Snort? Thank you Yes, Redmine is for both bug reports and feature requests. Asking for the Suricata binary to be updated to the latest 7.0.11 version from upstream is a legitimate Redmine request. I would suggest simply asking for the binary version update instead of asking about future Netgate strategy (such as the support plans for the packages). Strategy discussions typically don't get very far because they deal with proprietary information or plans that a company may not want to publicly discuss. Redmine is where the Netgate developer team tracks all the code changes they make for pfSense. They will see Redmine reports much quicker than a forum post.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

That's probably good thing ? ( ! ). Up to you to discover why your NAS should initiate connections to these countries. A NAS can go outside for maintenance purposes, for example to look for updates of it's system. These could be located anywhere of course. The GeoIP IP created a rule for you. How and where do you use that this rule ?

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@EChondo What's your pfSense version ? The instructions are shown here : [image: 1753262126227-1acdc586-cb29-4148-9e36-81ade4e5e60c-image.png] A restart of a service will start by re creating their config files. If a certificate changed, it will get included. When the process starts, it will use the new certificate. @EChondo said in Issue with ACME Certificates Refresh & Restarting HAProxy: I haven't been able to confirm if the above works(mine just renewed, don't feel like doing it again just to test), so we'll see in 60 days I guess. No need to wait x days. You can re test / renew right away, as you are 'allowed' to renew a couple (5 max ?) of times per week.

Since my upgrade to 25.07-RELEASE (amd64) built on Tue Jul 22 22:24:00 CEST 2025 FreeBSD 15.0-CURRENT, on one end of my most important tunnel, the tunnel still works fine, but the pfSense GUI keeps reporting the service as stopped. I had to remove its monitoring from the Service Watchdog which was also trying to start it, without success. Yet the trafic flows correctly. I'm holding off upgrading my other boxes. Is there something I could do to help diagnose?

Go to Diagnostics > Command, and enter the following two commands in the shell execute box: pkg_delete \*squid\* rm /usr/local/pkg/squid* And then try to reinstall. At most you might have to make a backup, edit the squid package info out of the config, and then restore it, then reinstall.

Have a look at http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/SquidGuard_package which shows how to configure SquidGuard. You can exclude categories or even single URLs from been blocked.

Hi, EDIT: please see my post here > http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,37452.0.html. NOt sure if it is even the same issue; however, its worth a shot. I confirm this issue with: snort > 2.8.6.1 pkg v. 1.35 pfsense 2.0 build > 2.0-RC2 (i386) built on Wed Jun 1 12:43:15 EDT 2011 I am unable to see which rules are running. Snort.org : N/A even though I get an alert that my rules are up to date. Oddly, it was working on Jun 3.

First check under System > Packages, make sure the packages are really there. If they are, then go to Diagnostics > Backup/Restore and press the button to reinstall all packages. If they aren't there, just install them as usual. It looks like it thinks the packages are there, since the menu entries are there, but they aren't really installed.

Sussed, If you have a hole in your interfaces, snort doesn't see past the hole. This will work, all interfaces are seen by snort GUI: LAN enabled WAN assigned & enabled OPT1 assigned & enabled OPT2 assigned & enabled OPT3 assigned & disabled OPT4 assigned & enabled This won't work, Anything past OPT3 (unassigned) are not seen in the GUI: LAN WAN OPT1 OPT2 OPT4 Now if you temporarily assign OPT3 and create the snort interface on OPT4 and remove OPT3, snort GUI can no longer see rules etc for OPT4 until OPT3 is assigned again. I didn't see this post until now. Post in the official ipblocklist topic next time. ICMP traffic won't get logged because the system is blocking it completely before anything can get logged. For more details on logging information make sure logging is checked. Just to reassure you, the package is working as intended.

I've had the same issue forever.  On reboots I had to remember to stop and restart the services.  I've just been too lazy to do a search and see if it was a common problem.  Now I have no excuses :)

Did a clean install of pfsense again. a pain !! Still getting the same errors. On every first fresh install squid2 wont start after reboot. I have to go into var/squid/ and delete cache and logs folders, do a package reinstall to get the cache built again and then it works. Are those errors serious? As I can see the service is started along with Squidguard. I am using aufs file system.

I agree 100%. Lightsquid doesn't belong on a CF/Flash system. Though if there was an easy way to direct the squid logs to a syslog server, where someone could run a separate instance of lightsquid, that would be ideal.
