Hello team, I have a Netgate 8200 running 24.11-RELEASE (amd64) with Suricata 7.0.8_5 package installed. Suricata doesn't seem to start. It loops to red once I press the Play button on the interface. It leaves no logs in the System logs, it leaves no logs in suricata.log at /var/log/suricata/suricata_ovpns933787/suricata.log I tried launching it manually: # /usr/local/bin/suricata -V or # /usr/local/bin/suricata -c /usr/local/etc/suricata/suricata_33787_ovpns9/suricata.yaml -i suricata_ovpns933787 and I get this output ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/bin/suricata: Undefined symbol "__strlcpy_chk@FBSD_1.8" Thanks in advance, Dara

@kabeda If memory serves, that old version of ntopng did not run as user ntopng, but as user nobody. There are lots of problems in that old version. Anyway, check the ownership and permissions of /var/db/ntopng and make sure it matches the user that ntopng runs as. You may need to set ownership of the entire hierarchy. Example: /usr/sbin/chown -R nobody:nobody /var/db/ntopng However, the better choice would be to upgrade to a more recent version.

@vicking said in No blocks on IP: Is it a bad idea to have the action set to deny both instead of inbound only? Question is squarely for admin. Per the infoblock which explains, in part, the "Deny Inbound", "Deny Outbound", and "Deny Both" actions: 'Deny' Rules: 'Deny' rules create high priority 'block' or 'reject' rules on the stated interfaces. They don't change the 'pass' rules on other interfaces. Typical uses of 'Deny' rules are: Deny Both - blocks all traffic in both directions, if the source or destination IP is in the block list Deny Inbound/Deny Outbound - blocks all traffic in one direction unless it is part of a session started by traffic sent in the other direction. Does not affect traffic in the other direction. One way 'Deny' rules can be used to selectively block unsolicited incoming (new session) packets in one direction, while still allowing deliberate outgoing sessions to be created in the other direction. In other words: When set to "Deny Inbound", incoming connection requests from WAN hosts are blocked and therefore no state will be created. However a LAN host can still establish state to an otherwise listed IP. If set to "Deny Outbound", outgoing connection requests from LAN hosts are blocked and therefore no state will be created. However an incoming connection request from an otherwise listed IP to an 'open' WAN port can still establish state. If set to "Deny Both", both incoming connection requests and outbound connections requests are blocked and therefore no state will be created regardless of connection direction.

I am using the DNS-Update method I have to use a DNS-Sleep of 5 minutes to let the letsencrypt txt dns record update propagate. During this 5 minutes the acme-webgui times out. when the acme-webgui times out the Action list is NOT executed. How can I solve this ? Would it maybe be an idea to let the acme.sh script execute the actions in the action list as a post-hook instead of the web-gui? Or maybe add an option to add post-hooks in the webUI ?

@luckman212, Thanks for your suggestion. I will check what I have in /usr/local/pkg/tailscale/state, and also the RAM disk settings others have brought up. I could learn more about where Tailscale and pfSense store system files. If I find anything worth sharing, I will let you know.

@andresbraga if you still have the firewall rules as you posted, then I don't know why from the laptop you can't ping the pfSense Wireguard address 10.10.6.1 nor the pfSense gateway 10.10.1.1 What is the routing table of the laptop. And I would run a packet capture on pfSense and check what you see if you run the ping to 10.10.1.1 or 10.10.6.1.

@jflsakfja: I see that snort sync has been added back in 2.5.8. Thank you, you just saved me a couple of months work. Many many many thanks! ;D Those thanks go to Marcelloc. ;D  He contributed the main Snort CARP Sync code.  I will be posting a Change Log with some screen shots of new stuff this weekend for the Snort 2.5.8 package. Alright!! Phil you were correct. That worked for the first script. The second one I managed to get working (somehow with the tee command). I ended up using: #!/bin/sh /usr/local/bin/curl ifconfig.me/ip|tee /tmp/vpn_external Now I am on to the final command, I have tinkered with it for about 2 hours, and I can get it to output a file, but the file only contains  {}  , usually it would have the port inside the brackets, ex. {45000}. Currently I am using the following command (the X's represent my username and password. If I enter the command into shell, it does work) I tried using the full path to both cat commands (and without) but no go: #!/bin/sh /usr/local/bin/curl -o /tmp/portforwardlist -d "user=XXXXX&pass=XXXXX&client_id=$(/bin/cat ~/.pia_config)&local_ip=$(/bin/cat /tmp/vpn_ip)" https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/vpninfo/port_forward_assignment ALMOST THERE

@drzoidberg33: I have a similar issue - automated report never send. I am trying to do a daily report with a few rrd graphs. It works fine if I click send now but the automation doesn't work. I have also tried selecting the blank option in the "Day of the week" field but it always reverts to Sunday when I save, maybe this is the issue? Here is a screengrab of the settings for this report: [image: Screenshot%20from%202013-05-29%2016%3A53%3A25.png] Nevermind, I see where I went wrong. The hour wasn't set, I mistakenly assumed it would just send at midnight.

You can install Pfflowd and have it send data to another server. Prtg is free on windows for 20 sensors/users. If you stick there add banner on your site I think you can get 20 or 30 more free sensors. The full version runs free for 30 days. Lots of data. Nfsen I think is one for linux. Look up flow collector and you will find several for linux.

Thanks for the information, I can't wait for that feature in 2.2.  ;D Since my email provider doesn't use the SSL authentication for the SMTP, I check the "Enable SSL/TLS Authentication" so that the box cannot send the notifications and only uncheck it if I want to send the RRD. It is like a manual sending of the graphs. But much better than manually copying each graph to paint/word processor. :D

sorry for the necro post, but this issue still is around and I wanted to post my workaround. It seems pfsense is setting up clamav with a non-default location for its socks and pid file (/var/run).  The default location is /var/run/clamav.  But when the scanning program is called by the gui, it's not given the path of the config file and doesn't know about the location of the sock file.  This creates a symlink as a work around. I'm not sure if the pid file is needed, but I linked it anyway. mkdir /var/run/clamav ln -s /var/run/clamd.pid /var/run/clamav/clamd.pid ln -s /var/run/clamd.sock /var/run/clamav/clamd.sock And it now works. 2013.05.28 02:08:31 Starting scan file '/var/db'. ----------- SCAN SUMMARY ----------- Infected files: 0 Time: 4.963 sec (0 m 4 s)

It's on acls. you whitelist based on error you got from remote server From remote server? Sending server or recieving server? Enable log and follow instructions on first gui tab. I assume my log is enbabled because I selected Destination: SystemLog. Or is there another place to enable ti? First GUI tab is the General tab. Settings are as followed Enabled Postfix: Checked Listen Interface: WAN Maximum message size: blank Process Limit: Blank Custom main.cd options: blank Logging Destination: SystemLog Updaters sqlite: every minute debug peer list: blank debug peer level: 2 Widget Options List Days 1 Max File size: blank

@hansrotec: an unrelated Q/A does ssd/HDD matter much in terms of performance for pfsense. right now i had a spare ssd laying around but due to its size it seems a waste to have it in the current setup. You will probably get a better answer to your ssd/HDD question in the Hardware thread.  I personally run an old SATAII 40 GB drive in my home firewall.  It is a Supermicro small-form factor server with an Intel Atom 330 with 4 GB of RAM.  My Internet connection (12 megabits/sec cable modem service) can't come close to breaking it into a sweat.  The only advantage of ssd is no moving parts and a little less heat. @Supermule: After a reinstall of Snort, then everything is fine. That error looks like perhaps you got hold of a corrupted rules file for the preprocessor text rules.  Can you tell if this coincided with an automatic rules update?  That file (decoder.rules) is used straight out of the archive downloaded and unpacked from Snort.org.  It is updated on each download of fresh rules from Snort.org.  My guess is either a borked download of the TAR file from Snort.org, or perhaps during the extraction and copying to the interface directory on the firewall it got trashed. A reinstall of Snort would have wiped the existing file and downloaded a fresh copy. Bill

Strange, from my 2.1-BETA1 (i386) built on Wed May 22 08:31:46 EDT 2013 FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE-p8 I can install the package, but still not on the 2.0.3. Other packages work. Fabian
