Hi, I had a problem with my home network today, so I checked pfsense and discovered that suricata had blocked the wan ip. After some tests and triggering some suricata alerts, the wan ip was blocked. I restarted pfsense and ran some more tests, but the problem no longer occurred. I then checked the wan interface settings and indeed the ip list does not include the wan ip, both now that it's working and before, when it was blocked. I'm using pfsense 2.8.0 and suricata 7.0.8_2. I use PPPoE to access the Internet.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

Ran into this issue today as well running on 25.07.1 with pfblockerNG-devel 3.2.7. Followed the steps outlined in this thread to edit the pfblockerng.sh file, then deleted/force reloaded all the lists, and all was well again. Thank you everyone in this thread for your your help and great instructions.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@provels said in updating to acme 1.0 breaks system beyond repair: need to restore from backup: This same mess happened to me, even w/o Acme, going from 25.07 to *.1. Blew, reinstalled w/ Crowdsec, blew again, reinstalled, clipped all the Crowdsec info from config.xml, restored config, back to normal. Crowdsec is a great concept, but I think I'm out. I never had this issue with Crowdec before the ACME update, even with updating from 2.7 to 2.8 there was no issues. In fact after restoring from a backup after the ACME update, Crowdsec reinstalled just fine, and this was before the recent release a couple days ago that contained a fix.

Hi all, I wanted to share that I’m also experiencing issues with Tailscale (v1.86.4) on the latest pfSense CE (v2.8.0). After either a pfSense reboot or a Tailscale service restart, my node is logged out of Tailscale — exactly as many of you have described here. It bothered me enough that I opened a support ticket with the Tailscale team. I explained the problem, included details, and linked this thread as a reference. The good news is that support responded quickly and said they’re setting up a pfSense VM to reproduce the issue. In the meantime, they suggested a workaround: “Based on the behavior described here and in the thread, it looks like the auth key used for authentication may be expiring. Since OAuth clients don’t expire, switching to an OAuth Client rather than an Auth Key might resolve this. See our docs here: https://tailscale.com/kb/1215/oauth-clients#registering-new-nodes-using-oauth-credentials I tested this, and after configuring Tailscale with OAuth, everything worked! Tailscale now stays connected and authenticated even after a reboot or service restart. That said, I did tell support that while OAuth solves the issue, it used to work out of the box with the simpler interactive login / auth key flow. Something seems to have changed on the Tailscale side, and I hope they identify and fix it. But until then, the OAuth workaround is a solid fix. I’d love to hear how it’s working for the rest of you. Anyone else try OAuth yet? Cheers

I figured out the issue. I missed adding the 3rd locations Lan to the static routing. Now all is working perfect.

https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/general/can-i-sell-pfsense.html What can not be offered is a commercial redistribution of pfSense software, for example the guidelines do not permit someone to offer “Installation of pfSense software” as a service or to sell a device pre-loaded with pfSense software to customers without the prior express written permission of ESF pursuant to the trademark policy.

I'm not sure where that error might be coming from, but it would not likely be relating to a user in the pfSense user manager, but a user in the FreeRADIUS settings. You might need to take a backup, edit out the affected settings, restore that, and then try again.

just guessing, but if I was configuring a business VPN server for remote access such as Pulse, I'd probably have my server setup to disallow clients connecting through proxies as they break the security.

No. There is no package for it, and no plans that I am aware of to include it or even to make it available for installation in that way. There is a request open here: https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/9044

That config file is very comparable with the Windows Registry, or a file system for that matter. Leftovers are not bad thing, they are just not used any more. The file tends to be somewhat bigger. pfSense settings often get removed are changed during upgrade. Settings - entries in the config.xml - created by packages, on the other hand, are most often not removed when uninstalling.

Yep. That confimes : @Gertjan said in No package available in Available Package: Most known reason : pfSense itself can't resolve anymore. Because : @Gertjan said in No package available in Available Package: Popular expression : you broke the DNS .... so it can't find updates and package information (these Netgate's server IPs are not hard coded in the code, they use URLs). You have the solution already ;)

I was thinking about similar setup, haproxy + suricata Frontend: SSL Offloading, Type: http/https Offloading, Public Cert Backend: Adress+Port 80, SSL no Not sure about snort, but suricata can inspect openvpn interface. I would connect webserver via openvpn to pfsense. Traffic would be encrypten within vpn tunnel but it would be still http, which can be fully inspected by suricata I tested it and it was worked. but i am not sure if there is any other security caveat i didn't count with, of course that vpntunnel would need to be extra secured.

@u444665 said in Basic FTP server Package for pfSense: using Captive Portal which works perfectly, as long as you allow all remaining devices 1 by 1. Normally ..... a captive portal should be run on a dedicated interface (OPTx). Everybody on the 'non-trusted' captive portal interface and up to you if they 'merit' a place on a more trusted LAN (OPTy) interface. Or even LAN - if they are really trustworthy.

Goto [image: 1576080801221-af2c14fd-b182-431d-a85e-8fd9d65e53d6-image.png] and help yourself ^^ Btw : This is the FreeBSD 11.2 => so you wind up using "syslog-ng-3.14.1_1". Netgate (pfSense) does not develop FreeBSD, they 'use' it from FreeBSD.org and take it 'as is' with some packages wrapped up to they can be installed on pfSense using the pfSense GUI. Also : this is a firewall, so priority 1 - 2 and 3 are 'security' and 'stability', so you will never find the latest version nginx, php or whatever other package.
