Thanks for giving me some interesting things to think about and to look at. I will tinker around a bit, never considered looking at power settings because all cores showed 50c. Which now that i think about it is prob on the low side for 100%.

Not so far, there is another topic on this where the poster is going to look into making the changes needed. You might be interested in assisting them or even doing it yourself if they aren't going to be able to do it. https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,66985.msg366187.html#msg366187

The keyboard-interactive method is more secure flexible, but not all SSH servers support it or have it enabled. It allows for things like multiple prompts to implement multi-factor auth and so on.

Not that I'm aware of. HAproxy can do it by a cookie or session ID of some sort, which is probably the most flexible.

I would say that you don't need VLANs. You already have several spare ports that you bridged together so the only other reason you might want them is to segregate sections of your network that span switches, you haven't mentioned anything like that. If you need (or want  ;)) a managed switch then define what features you need on it. The low end HP switches always get a good write up here as do the Netgear managed switches, the GS108T for example. Steve

I was thinking the same, however, my wife needs it for school. I tried it just to allow her classwork to continue without a hitch. I just turned it off and it still prints. Once again, thank you all.

I reported the same thing a while back. Not sure what the fix is. I have found openVPN to be a lot more stable than IPSec.

I searched on www for broadcast port 3490 and got answers about HP APs. And some solutions to disable the broadcasts. Do you have som HP network products on the LAN? Otherwise try do a packet capture and look for the MAC address of the source. Then you may be able to find the source of the broadcasts. /illern

If the Windows 8 + IE 10 + touch user agent is something we can detect, we can force it to switch the theme to the pfSense one. If you'd like to see those features in a theme, you're more than welcome to make a theme, offer a bounty to make one, or search around and find if someone has already made one that works like you want. IE barely functions with our GUI anyhow. Get a different browser ASAP.  ;D

I'm sure others will appreciate your findings if you put in the time doing some testing. Have you read this: https://wiki.freebsd.org/NetworkPerformanceTuning Enabling IP fastforwarding can have a significant impact on throughput, I wasn't looking at latency, but it kills ipsec if you're using it. http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=47567.0 Steve

I meant what does the interface report when you query if with ifconfig. Some cards have a problem with hardware vlan tagging, you can disable it on an interface (em0 here) like so: ifconfig emo -vlanhwtag If that works you can set it to run at boot using a cron job or with the Shellcmd package. • HOW can I limit my amount of traffic (upload/download)?

You could use Firewall->Traffic Shaper, Limiter and put all your traffic into a limiter. That will slow you down all the time! But it is nice to be able to download at your full speed (8Mbps) so that a file download finishes quickly and you can use it. You just can't do that 24 hours a day on most home plans. There is nothing in pfSense to count the amount you have downloaded and give you a warning when you reach near your quota. Note: even if you limit to 1Mbps, that is about 7.5MB/min = 450MB/hour = 10.8GB/day = 324GB/month. If you have something on your network constantly downloading (and/or uploading = bittorrent…) then you will still chew up plenty of quota.

I am not a dansguardian user, so I am not familiar with the settings for that. You might get faster replies by posting in the Packages forum category.
