Yup, that's what I figured :).

From the posts I've read, I'm getting the feeling that it might be because I'm using a 4-port Ethernet card. Perhaps it doesn't have enough buffering. I'll look into that next.  Perhaps there's a way of using system memory with it or something.

hello.. I'm also attempting to do this (add user(s) just for SSH tunneling I added the user via ur prev post but I get an error that the server rejected our key (admin works) the unprivilaged user can only log in if i uncheck the "Disable Password login for Secure Shell (KEY only)" option.

anyone know how I can get Key login working ?

EDIT… NEVERMIND i figured it out

just needed to copy the .ssh/authorized_keys to the new users /home/none location.

Are you sure you got the alias definition for 'Wireless net' right? You use it for the access rule on the wireless tab.
If you can't even ping OPT1 from within OPT1 then the traffic gets blocked at the interface for some reason. Try to find out why.

Format the stick and only use it to store the config booting from the livecd. This is option 98, not 99.

Things regarding virtual IPs are often not working due to arpcache issues of the devices in front of you. Try to reboot the device in front of you or take down the line for some minutes to make the arp caches expire.
