Same sentiment from me. It's always better to ask questions than to struggle on alone for fear of saying the wrong thing.  ;) Since you have 4 NICs you can have a 1 WAN and 3 LAN setup (without using VLANs). 3 internal interfaces, 3 separate subnets with whatever firewall rules you choose to put in to filter traffic between them. You might choose to put any servers on one subnet, wireless clients on another and everything else on the last for example. If you want more segregation, firewall rules between each machine for example, you can add further interfaces using VLANs and your switch. Steve

Yes - every port forward created in the NAT section generates a firewall rule on the wan interface. Now if you disable the port forward, the firewall rule still shows as enabled, although it doesn't function anymore. This behavior is like this as I observed in 2.1, 2.1.1, 2.1.3.

jimp, Thanks for the explanation.  It just seemed a bit strange, in terms of the "normal" GUI style.

Update, after doing a multitude of trial and error (which will be listed at the bottom), i got it past the installation, through the reboot and on to configuring pf sense on my main computer. The last method i tried was placing the hard-drive into slave mode while having the disk reader as the master on the first channel of the motherboards pata controller. 1* I feel really stupid and confused on why or how this worked. I do not believe that it has anything to do with the jumpers on the devices (master, slave) nor do i believe that the access mode (LBA) has anything do do with it (maybe) because I tried multiple combinations of everything. on a side note: I switched installation dvds and burnt myself a copy of pfsense 2.1.4 i386, which did not also worked untill I did the change above. The changes that i made were (not in chronological order, also the ones i can remember) reformatting and partitioning the drive via FreeBSD 8.3 i386 dvd (Errors when installing freebsd but partition and formats remained) switching: Pata cables, sata and pata Harddrive, cd/dvd burners, memory turning off: ps/2 mouse, onboard 1394, Serial ports, Parralel ports ,usb legacy mode support(which was turned back on) installing windows xp(which the machine Had), and updating Bios as well as partitioning the disk attempted to use pfsense live cd shell and try to learn fdisk to get a hint as to what the problem was edit: 1* as opposed to having both hard drive and disk reader be the master of their respective pata channels : hdd = channel 2 , Disk = channel 1

@downtown: @downtown: Same issue here. Warning: copy(/conf.default/config.xml): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /etc/inc/config.lib.inc on line 605 Could someone with the file please post its contents so I can create it and carry on? Never mind, it's here: https://github.com/pfsense/pfsense/blob/master/conf.default/config.xml I can confirm that creating the file with the contents of the source from github solved the problem.

You could also run the X86 flavour of OpenWRT on the WRAP: http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/pcengines/wrap and add multiwan: http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/uci/multiwan Steve

Thanks for the info on CLOG, but I was getting similar errors on other logs as well, for example /var/log/system.log and dmesg.log, after a day or two. I also had other issues, as weak MB battery, so my settings kept on changing randomly, but the main problem was an old HD with bad sectors! Rrrr. Using old hardware doesn´t seem to be a good idea. Replaced…. much better!!!

Looks like the deinstall option will be defaulted to "on" with the next release but only for new installs. https://github.com/pfsense/pfsense-packages/pull/678

Hi Guys, Just want to update regarding this thread. I tried many things, including replacing HD but still could not solve the issue. Then I add another 2G RAM (become 4G RAM) into this server, then I install VM (ESXi), and pfsense on top of that VM. It works fine. So just FYI guys if you see similar issue, you may want to consider using VM instead. Thanks all for help.

Actually, on 2.1 and later when you backup the RRD, assuming you start on the architecture matching the RRD files, it's backed up in an architecture-independent XML format. If you are on i386 with working graphs you can make a backup including RRD and then restore to amd64 and the graphs come back with it. At least, that's how it's supposed to work. I haven't tried it myself in a while. If your RRD data on the HDD is already wrong, then leave the RRD out of the backup and then once you switch back your RRD graphs will work again.

Depending if you are filtering on your bridged interfaces you maybe hitting the issue I had when first trying it. I wanted DHCP to run with firewall rules inplace and never got it to work. By changing the tunables to not filter on the bridge this may help. Anouther thing you can try is a packet trace on the pfsense to see what is going on.

If you are coming in on a different IP via the SSL VPN the pfsense will need to know how's to route this. By the sounds of it you will only have the default Gateway on the WAN interface, as such the traffics destined for you will go via the WAN. To solve this you would be better off VPN straight to the Pfsense box or you will need to put static routes in.

So, yes, you can do that using firewall rules with policy routing. The only thing I see there that would be a problem would be separate DNS. Why would you want separate DNS though? Incidentally you could also do that by passing all 4 VLANs to pfSense via a single connection and route between them directly. You could use several physical connections in a LAGG between the switch and pfSense to offer some redundancy. Steve
