Thanks KOM and aGeekHere for your replies. I confess to having seen the PC Engine 1D4 and its greater RAM, and therefore imagine it will fly the E2G software.  Loss of blacklists due to being stored on RAMD~/tmp remains a pest.  Shall rethink use of SquadGuard….. WRT the other minis, single LAN [which most appear to be] is problematic though with the USB not insurmountable given some modems have USB ports or at a pinch use an adpator. Mind you, with my VW Golf exploding last night, I am a little distracted so forgive me if I missed anything.  Still happy for suggestions etc… Oz

I think that this too has to deal with the mount option in /etc/fstab. Change 'sync' to 'nosync'. Save and then reboot the box. Also, as stated above use Squid3.

Either learn to do it yourself, pay someone to do it with a Bounty, or search online to see if someone already made such a thing.

With almost no information given, I would say you have to find the root of the problem and then devise a solution for it.

The APU1D4 has 4GB of RAM, isnt that enough? More than enough.  I thought you had one of the little units with 256 MB. Seems to work now, too bad that the sites have some spaces in there but it's working. Good to hear.  What do you mean by 'some spaces'?  Blanks fields in the HTML rendering?

Guys…. Thank you all for your help... I got it running perfectly. One small issue has anyone come across with this "when using citrix receiver to connect to RDP i get the following error only through proxy. "There is no Citrix SSL Server configured on the specified address". I tried out usual troubleshooting like using "proxy server options" and "bypass proxy for local address" on IE and using newer clients and all. Thank you for your time.

I need the captive portal enabled. It's better for authentification of users who don't have any idea of computer.

@stephenw10: Hmm, yes. Didn't take anything like that even on my ancient Celeron. Running from an SSD though. Can you see what it's waiting for at the console? Try hitting Ctrl+T a few times to see what process is actually running. Steve the tar program

Hi, squid comes as a package from the community. Even if many of the developers contribute code to this package this is still a community package and as long as the author of this package or someone else does not add a tutorial to the wiki then there won't be any. I myself developed a package for pfsense and I added a tutorial to the wiki and I tried to help in a separte post and I appreciated any help in documentation but I do not know of anyone who posted just one line to the wiki. I added the posts from the forum but noone else did. So you can see that packages from the community can be well documented or the aren't. I assume that most of the features of the pfsense base system is well documented - at least in the pfsense book and/or wiki.
