(security check: don't put the red port on WAN or "bad" networks) I bring a long hdmi cable for nearby tvs to check console locally. +USB3 ports on back work for console, they autodetect as 2.0 I think? +AHCI mode works, I use the msata slot for an ssd +Did not have to do anything weird in bios like disabling features or hardware to install Beware though, the firmware on the board is quirky about expansion cards, intel sucks at writing bios for their own boards… Current status with the bios from July 2013: +Anything 82571 based should work, tested pro 1000 PT duals and quads myself -82576 pro 1000 VT quad hangs system during bios load, card works fine on other boards -i350 quad works, but disables the second memory slot (yeah, wtf?) +82574L aka the cheap desktop CT nics should work as one is onboard (don't buy these, single port 82571 are $10 on fleabay and have ECC buffers and other server style features) No idea about: i340? 82572 aka pro 1000 fiber nics, but I think these are nearly same as 82571? Any 10GbE? PS, this board is really hard to find right now, it was very common and around $150 earlier this year Intel claims it is not discontinued but I'm not sure I believe them

Hmm.  ;) The box can't shutdown correctly because it doesn't have an ATX compliant PSU, it's always on, it has a real power switch. Thus when you try to shutdown it can't so some boxes just halt and others reboot. I'm going to have to test my box here to be sure. Update: As I thought my box here reboots in all cases. Running reboot or halt from then console menu or the webgui or using 'shutdown -r now'. Steve

I'm getting a P4 box tomorrow from my work I hope.. I have a 105Mbit connection I'll probably be doing some testing and report back my results..  Is the 200Mbit split between the 2 nics?  If that's the case then I don't see where their be a problem..  Unless like previous posted it's the cards themselves.. And you could get a dual-gigabit intel nic and see how that does..

The sk NICs are PCI and they share a single bus so their performance will always be worse. Should be better than that though, a lot better. Pretty sure I saw 500Mbps sk-sk. Steve

Actually - It was you who mentioned this to someone else earlier (much earlier) and got me to take at look at that.  Before that, I was considering trying to use DDWRT for VLAN, but then decided its probably a pain and perhaps not great solution.

Indeed this should be in general discussion if anywhere but never mind. Check the power supply. If it's a standard voltage and you have something else that might fit try that. I've seen similar equipment that seemed to be working, the NIC would establish a link, but the CPU wasn't booting. Turned out to be a bad PSU that was difficult to find because off-load it seemed OK. Have you been pressing the reset button very often? The reset buttons are not expected to be used repeatedly so they can fail. If it's broken it may have jammed in the 'reset' position which would obviously prevent it booting. Easy to test that with continuity tester. Steve

An Atom will firewall/NAT 500-600Mbps so well able to handle your total 84Mbps WANs. However you will not get that if you're using VPNs as you are. The best OpenVPN speed you're likely to see would be ~50Mbps and that would use all the CPU, nothing left to route other traffic. Step up to a low end Sandy Bridge, G620 for example, and you'll have no problem. A system built with a such a CPU can be surprisingly cheap and sometimes not much more costly to run. Steve

Hmm, slightly odd. The default serial console speed for pfSense is 9600. In 2.0.x you can only change that by adding lines to loader.conf, 2.1 has a webgui option. It's possible that Netgate's image was customized for them to use 115200. As I said in Voultar's thread the Watchguard X-core is a special case. Steve

Readyboost is a windows term, Yes it claims that it meets a certian speed requirement, but this day and age, just get a good branded device and call it good USB 2.0 or USB 3.0, just make sure it's not cheap big-box store brand, and you'll be fine (FYI, i've converted almost all of my USB2 thumbdrives to USB3.0 - they are faster even on usb2 ports)

I had a similar problem, my CF card was not being recognised by either my camera or computer, so I was unable to run any recovery software on the card, so obviously it was a hardware issue. After much searching I discovered http://recoverfab.com, and sent my card to them, and they managed to retrieve all 900 photos I had lost - excellent service and highly recommended. James

The bandwidth limit of the PCI bus will likely not be an issue here because the D2500 CPU cannot approach it anyway. Steve
