Hi, I had a problem with my home network today, so I checked pfsense and discovered that suricata had blocked the wan ip. After some tests and triggering some suricata alerts, the wan ip was blocked. I restarted pfsense and ran some more tests, but the problem no longer occurred. I then checked the wan interface settings and indeed the ip list does not include the wan ip, both now that it's working and before, when it was blocked. I'm using pfsense 2.8.0 and suricata 7.0.8_2. I use PPPoE to access the Internet.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@yobyot I've SSHed into pfsense and for the sake of testing I've simply run the command: tailscale up --auth-key=tskey-client-kQ_THE_REST_IS_A_SECRET\?preauthorized=true\&ephemeral=false --accept-dns=false --accept-routes --advertise-exit-node --advertise-routes=X.X.X.X/24 --advertise-tags=tag:pfsense Note the preauthorized=true and ephemeral=false I gave this key all permissions (temporarly as I just wanted to verify it's working) of course I had to register the tag used also in the ACL tags pane: https://login.tailscale.com/admin/acls/visual/tags so far so good

Same here. It started after I installed 25.07. Then it settled down by itself after a few days. It started again after upgrading to 25.07.1. WireGuard works fine (it merely connects to the remote site from this one). However, I am refraining from upgrading the remote, because if the 'service' does not start, I fear it will not listen to incoming connections, which would leave me in a difficult situation. The other topic I had opened before finding this: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/198449/25.07-release-amd64-wireguard-service-reported-stopped-yet-tunnel-trafic-clearly-is-ok

@wdennis: @jimp: Has this behavior changed at some point? Have you tried just clicking "ok" with the blank password? When importing into windows it also claims it was protected with a password but if you just click Next and keep going it still works. Tried clicking OK, but just comes back to password prompt… This is a relatively new system, and am just starting to work with certs on it, so no change in behavior -- it has never worked :) Thanks wdennis, have you been able to solve this problem? I'm having the same issue. Is there a "standard" password ? Regards Alexander

Ok, Here I resolved this issue. I created a rule file in rules folder of the interface and added include $RULE_PATH/us.rules in Advanced configuration pass through.  This setup is working even when the rules are auto updated.

DNS forwarder is not in use (is disabled). pfSense is configured to use two back-end DNS servers, has always worked fine. The primary is listed first, the secondary second. The back-end web server CNAME was recently added to the Primary DNS since traffic needed to be routed via host header, not with a path. The slave immediately updated its zone. There was a power failure overnight Sunday morning, and when UPS ran out all servers were shut down until power was restored. Testing from a remote location right now, its serving up the robots.txt file as fast as 102ms. Probably restarting something resolved the issue, though since the whole farm was restarted its impossible to know what specifically did it. Hopefully it stays resolved!

Just remove the "*" and insert .phobos.apple.com on squid whitelist. Do you use transparent proxy?

Squid do not implement https transparent proxy but dansguardian does on 2.12. The bad news is that client browsers reject dansguardian "fake" cert on current compilation/package.

Well, didn't really answer the critical part of the question, but I seemed to have figured it out. The rule should allow all source IP, all sorce port to the public IP the proxy is listening on as the destination IP with a destination port of 80.

I have a problem with Skype blocking. I don't and I am using pfSense 2.0.1 and Snort 2.9.2.3 pkg v. 2.5.1. Either you enable the rules in pua-p2p, or use the default ET set of rules.

If you dont use FailOver or LoadBalance, you can just add tcp_outgoing_address WAN2_IP on squid custom options.

I'm talking about ntop >summary > traffic. At "Global TCP/UDP Protocol Distribution" is where i want to list what uses most bandwidth first. Now FTP is listed first, but ftp haven't used more then 202.5KBytes, Facebook on the other hand, has used 771.4 MBytes. We do not want to start with proxy yet, because then we will have to configure about 250 machines to go through the proxy. And that we do only have time for when it's summer vacation for the students.

Sorry for the delay. We have the same issue and it is causing us major problems. We have an internal server that scans web sites known as a security risk so we generate alot of Snort alerts. However, our internal LAN servers are getting blocked by Snort on the virtual IP (IP the server has on the Internet). We have put the virtual IP range in the white list and we have set the "Add Virtual IP Addresses to the list" option on. Yet still our virtual IPs get blocked by snort (they appear in the Snort blocked list). What can be done to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated!!

Nice, thank you phil.davis for pushing it to github, I have a github acc but didnt know about that repository. now its just a few more bugs left  ::) the mail part is very important, I had this package running on a lan-party last week and forgot about it. when I checked the report I saw my server's mac-address on 3 ip-adresses, it was because i used linux-vserver but if it had been an arp poisoning I would not have notices untill I got ssl-warnings and slow network :P

True that the "free" or "registered user" rules are updated much less frequently than the "paid" or "subcriber" rules are.  The subscription rules are generally updated daily except across weekends. I can definitely report the behavior with the cron job rules update is consistent if you logout of the GUI and wait for the job to run.  Apparently the various values from the config.xml file are normally stored in an array variable called "$config" within the GUI.  The cron job now uses the same PHP page to perform its rule updates as the GUI manual method does, and the values are supposed to be available within that "$config" array variable (it's a global array, apparently).  Looks to me that once you log out of the GUI and any cached info expires, the cron job is then left with no values in the "$config" array.  One of those missing values is the Oinkmaster Code to use for the rule download.  With that parameter missing, the rules download does not happen. It seems that if you change the time the cron job is to run, and you hold an active web session open during the scheduled cron run, then everything works fine.  My guess is this happens because the "$config" array is still populated with an active GUI session. This will probably need Ermal to take a look and see if it can be fixed.
