Hi, I had a problem with my home network today, so I checked pfsense and discovered that suricata had blocked the wan ip. After some tests and triggering some suricata alerts, the wan ip was blocked. I restarted pfsense and ran some more tests, but the problem no longer occurred. I then checked the wan interface settings and indeed the ip list does not include the wan ip, both now that it's working and before, when it was blocked. I'm using pfsense 2.8.0 and suricata 7.0.8_2. I use PPPoE to access the Internet.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

Ran into this issue today as well running on 25.07.1 with pfblockerNG-devel 3.2.7. Followed the steps outlined in this thread to edit the pfblockerng.sh file, then deleted/force reloaded all the lists, and all was well again. Thank you everyone in this thread for your your help and great instructions.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@provels said in updating to acme 1.0 breaks system beyond repair: need to restore from backup: This same mess happened to me, even w/o Acme, going from 25.07 to *.1. Blew, reinstalled w/ Crowdsec, blew again, reinstalled, clipped all the Crowdsec info from config.xml, restored config, back to normal. Crowdsec is a great concept, but I think I'm out. I never had this issue with Crowdec before the ACME update, even with updating from 2.7 to 2.8 there was no issues. In fact after restoring from a backup after the ACME update, Crowdsec reinstalled just fine, and this was before the recent release a couple days ago that contained a fix.

I figured out the issue. I missed adding the 3rd locations Lan to the static routing. Now all is working perfect.

Hello Stephenw10 Thanks much for the message. I will check it, although the service can't start, not with that config. Anyway, I am also trying to use parallel port configuration since it doesnt' need any interface in between. (I have another display hd44780 compatible with no USB interface) Will post the results here after all. Thanks Fabricio.

The afterfilterchangeshellcmd option of shellcmd package was the way to do it. Many thanks to "Kill Bill".

  • Snort & Firewall IP to Resolve to DNS?

I don't know if I 100% agree with that statement. While it may take more processing power to perform the reserve lookup. If done right it would not be less secure. If your machine is making any requests for those services, they already have your IP during the handshake and reply so…. Also just like most services, you would think they would do a reserve look up using a service provider. Such as a "whois" report server, and then return that data back to you. So you would not be sending data back to the original location asking for a "whois" you would be sending your "whois" reverse lookup request to a "whois" service that would return the answer. This practice is pretty common. I deploy Watchguard firewalls all the time and they have reserve DNS features as well that checks Watchguards DNS services and provides a respond back to resolve the name. Also one reason I went with PFSense is so I could have the increase hardware to perform these types of things... It's kind of a no brainier that it should be a feature and I dont see it being a wild request...

Pbi files are for 2.2.x version. They will not work on 2.3.4 This looks like a squidguard error, not a squid one. If you really want to change the squid version on your system, you need to enable freebsd repository or compile it on a bsd and create a package to install.

Thanks for the suggestion and I do remember that the package I used for the previous firewall did require customization to my modem. Initial research shows that the snmp approach may be fruitful, but i will likely not be able to display the graphs in pfsense.

I suppose this would be better posted to a FreeRADIUS board; I'll experiment with FreeRADIUS 3 as well to see if rebinds are done within the existing TLS session as I would expect or if they are attempted in the clear.

@jimp: Do not attempt to downgrade anything. Make sure the FreeRADIUS package is updated (System > Package Manager, Installed Packages tab) and then make sure your FreeRADIUS settings are correct. You may need to set certificates for EAP. Thanks for reply: FreeRadius is updated again; Certificates for EAP implemented but not used (only possibility configuration for saving the settings); as well as "Plain MAC Auth" is now disabled (did not know before on 2.3.3??) Now I am waiting …

@hsrtreml: same issue with new patch within EAP: The following input errors were detected: SSL CA Certificate must not be set to 'none'. Create a CA certificate if needed and select it here. SSL Server Certificate must not be set to 'none'. Create a server certificate if needed and select it here. I set some Cert-Example; save; then no error message but after a long time freeradius service end!! That is not the same issue. Please start a new thread.

If you want to just be able to give out host.fqdn.com as the URL you'll need to move the front end to port 80.  I would suggest that instead you move it to 443 and use the ACME package to add TLS to your service; users would then have to use https://host.fqdn.com but you'd provide a bit more security if you're using any kind of username / password on ombi.

There is no way to do this directly within the GUI.  You will instead have to export the config.xml firewall configuration file, open it in an XML editor and locate the section within the file that stores the Snort configuration, export that section, and then import that section into your template xml. @knightv: i can't start ….. Another issue : You saw the : "Unable to check for updates"  ? Much is said already on the forum about that one. Btw : the log lines you showed explain the problem very well : FreeRadius can't load the certificate and bails out.
