@JonathanLee no way to fix this ?? to do some kind of purge to squid and squidguard and install them again The last option I'm trying to avoid is to reinstall the entire system.

Hi, I had a problem with my home network today, so I checked pfsense and discovered that suricata had blocked the wan ip. After some tests and triggering some suricata alerts, the wan ip was blocked. I restarted pfsense and ran some more tests, but the problem no longer occurred. I then checked the wan interface settings and indeed the ip list does not include the wan ip, both now that it's working and before, when it was blocked. I'm using pfsense 2.8.0 and suricata 7.0.8_2. I use PPPoE to access the Internet.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

I am considering a “novel” solution to this lack of syslog support in pfBlockerNG. The obvious way would still be to use syslog-ng but I’m instead considering using the builtin syslogd in pfsense as that is already shipping pfsense logentries to my siem. It seems it would be quite simple to use the SHELLCMD package to run a small daemon script at startup that monitors the needed pfBlocker logfiles with “tail -F” and then converts the contents into a more syslog friendly format before piping that into “logger” with the local0 facility as destination. That destination is already syslogged of to my SIEM by the builtin syslogd setup in pfSense. This would probably still see everything being shipped in duplicates because of how pfBlockerNG rotates its logs (if that has not been fixed), but this way I could adapt the script to skip entries in the 1 minute timeframe when the pfBlocker reload happens. That it still a rather shitty and complicated solution requiring a package, but it seems builtin syslog support is not in the pfBlockerNG development priority list, so a manual workaround is required.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@provels said in updating to acme 1.0 breaks system beyond repair: need to restore from backup: This same mess happened to me, even w/o Acme, going from 25.07 to *.1. Blew, reinstalled w/ Crowdsec, blew again, reinstalled, clipped all the Crowdsec info from config.xml, restored config, back to normal. Crowdsec is a great concept, but I think I'm out. I never had this issue with Crowdec before the ACME update, even with updating from 2.7 to 2.8 there was no issues. In fact after restoring from a backup after the ACME update, Crowdsec reinstalled just fine, and this was before the recent release a couple days ago that contained a fix.

@yobyot I've SSHed into pfsense and for the sake of testing I've simply run the command: tailscale up --auth-key=tskey-client-kQ_THE_REST_IS_A_SECRET\?preauthorized=true\&ephemeral=false --accept-dns=false --accept-routes --advertise-exit-node --advertise-routes=X.X.X.X/24 --advertise-tags=tag:pfsense Note the preauthorized=true and ephemeral=false I gave this key all permissions (temporarly as I just wanted to verify it's working) of course I had to register the tag used also in the ACL tags pane: https://login.tailscale.com/admin/acls/visual/tags so far so good

Write 2.1.4 on a new CF card and boot pfsense. Install the OpenVPN Export package and reboot, works fine with default config. Restore my backup and reboot, works fine. Maybe the CF card was bad or something in the update process goes really wrong.

If I understand it correctly, you host your organization's email on Office 365? If so, do you have autodiscover.<your_domain>.com properly aliased (CANME) to autodiscover.outlook.com? Reason I am asking is that autodiscover.outlook.com does not respond on port 443 (and should not). In case it is configured correctly, you also have to be mindful of when to enter which credentials - some will ask you for your proxy credentials and some will ask for application (exchange) credentials. And another way to test this is to allow your test machine to connect directly - does it work or still prompts?</your_domain>

@Legion: If you just want to block a short, fixed list of things, can't you use aliases and firewall rules? Absolutely. The hard part of doing it that way though is that some of the bigger sites can have multiple IP addresses and those addresses can change on a fairly regular basic. You really need something that keeps the list of addresses up to date if you are trying to block one of the large sites…

Sorry for the long come back. Been busy with some works though. @dig1234: transparent proxy? Nope it is not transparent. Both HTTP/HTTPS are filtered & using WPAD for auto proxy. @Cino: iphone/ipad, you can use wpad but you have to enable it in the wifi setting for automatic… android, you have to manually set the proxy server in the dhcp/wifi setting... but i dont think https will work right... This is a pain. May be I should use some sort of captive portal on a different subnet. But then again it break the whole point of having a proxy in place. :(

@Hollander: So, Bill: is there perhaps a way to apply the settings from LAN to VLANx via a script in the CLI? Bye  :P Yes, this is technically possible, but the developers were not keen on the idea so I did not include it.  All of the settings for an interface are stored as XML data in the /conf/config.xml file on the firewall.  If you study that file and know XML, you can pretty quickly see how things work.  Just find the section for Packages and then Suricata (or Snort).  Each configured Suricata interface has its own sub-section in the file.  Copying one sub-section over to another, and adjusting for interface names and a couple of other interface-unique parameters is all that is required. @dmitripr: … Based on the topic I link in my second message, looks like the blocked hosts are removed when filter is reset -- which would happen at reboot. That's outside of Snort's control. Thanks for the message, though! Correct.  On a reboot all of the pf tables are cleared, including the <snor2c>table utilized by Snort. Bill</snor2c>

I don't know of anything that would remove the CRON package after it was installed. Only thing, i could see is if you did a Restore of a Previous Configuration which rolled it back to before CRON was installed.

You can use Squid's Traffic Mgmt tab to throttle particular extensions.  Set Per-host throttling to 2000 (KB), Throttle only specific extensions checked, and your list of extensions in Throttle other extensions

I suspect it was your browser cache.  I've seen this exact problem myself more than once, and a ctrl-F5 always fixed it.  You get the error page, hit F5 and see the same error page, hit ctrl-F5 and there it is.  It's weird like that, but you just remember the glitch if you do a lot of installs.

Run a Lightsquid report and see what your Hit% is after a week or so of normal usage for your cafe.  That will tell you how effective Squid is being about caching content and saving bandwidth.

@Cino: Noticed something else this morning, the cron job that removes IPs from snort2c seems to disappears after a reboot. I have to go to into the global tab and save it so the job is recreated. EDIT: Nevermind… Its not because of a reboot... When I make changes to snort, it removes the cron job because I deactivated blocking in snort You can have lots of weird issues if you run both Snort and Suricata in blocking mode because for the moment they share the same pf table (the snort2c table). @cyber7: To the pfSense Developers.  PLEASE STOP BREAKING THE WIDESCREEN ABILITY! It has never been broken intentionally. We can't hold back the base system because some unofficial and unsupported patch might break, especially when security and similar fixes are required. The original creator of the patch or someone with the skills to update it would have to keep up with the code changes in the base system. If someone wants to maintain the patch and bring it up to a current version, others may appreciate it, but if we wanted the patch in the base system for 2.1.x it would have been officially accepted there long ago. There is a widescreen theme in 2.2, and 2.2 is moving along, almost to BETA. That's the only place that officially contains widescreen support. Anything else only works by luck/chance. If it bothers you that much, put up a bounty to have someone fix the widescreen patch or fix it yourself for others to use.

I had to go here to get the full details: http://wiki.squid-cache.org/SquidFaq/WindowsUpdate not 100% it is actually working as intended with those recommendations as lightsquid logs are not totally clear as to whom is getting a hit on the cache for updates… so ya.  maybe that will help you some.

Using Squid and SquidGuard, go to Services - Proxy filter.  Click the Target categories tab and add a new one.  Give it a name and add your allowed domains to the Domain List.  Click Save.  Go to the Common ACL tab and click the green arrow button to expand the Target Rules List.  Make sure your Target category is listed at the top and its access is set to allow.  Underneath that (because the rules are processed in order from top down) make sure that Default access [all] is set to deny.  Set your Proxy Denied Error, Redirect mode, and Redirect info to whatever you need.  Click Save.  Go to the General settings tab.  Click Save, then click Apply.

@Cino: @Trel: I turned on packet logging for an interface to test with, but I can't find where to actually access those logs. I kept getting the "Suspicious User Agent" alert so I wanted to look at the packets to see what actually it's flagging. i get a ton of them, mostly false positives for me but look here /var/log/suricata/suricata_'interface id' Based on the port being used and the  machine it's coming from, I'm fairly certain I know what's triggering it and if I'm reading the rule right: http://doc.emergingthreats.net/bin/view/Main/2001891 That's being triggered by "3a" or " agent" being in the user agent?

My unbound runs OK. (2.1.x, x64) Have you tried, without the cache restoration option turned on? With cache restoration turned on, my system reboot would take forever, because of unbound hanging/processing a maybe corrupt cache-file.
