@NRgia said in Suricata on Pfsense: @bmeeks Thank you for what you did for Snort or Suricata. I'm not sure what you want me to do on Redmine, due to is a bug tracker. My question is for Product Management, which I will ask it here to be public: What is the plan for these 2 packages, Suricata and Snort? Thank you Yes, Redmine is for both bug reports and feature requests. Asking for the Suricata binary to be updated to the latest 7.0.11 version from upstream is a legitimate Redmine request. I would suggest simply asking for the binary version update instead of asking about future Netgate strategy (such as the support plans for the packages). Strategy discussions typically don't get very far because they deal with proprietary information or plans that a company may not want to publicly discuss. Redmine is where the Netgate developer team tracks all the code changes they make for pfSense. They will see Redmine reports much quicker than a forum post.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

@jrey Thank you so much for the detailed explanation and help. I will adapt and apply the patch to move the job timing like suggested at 01:35 Are you just a user or are you also involved in package maintenance on one or more packages?

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@raidflex said in updating to acme 1.0 breaks system beyond repair: need to restore from backup: maybe uninstall Crowdsec when applying other updates first. It seems like it doesn't help at least from what I see on my system... it changes something.. so it must be definitely reported to their github. I have never experienced that before and crowsec was installed.. maybe with 2.8.0 something have changed

Upgraded 25.07 and Tailscale is broken in the way users here describe. I can manually log in using sudo /usr/local/bin/tailscale login, but the tailscale service in pfSense does not pick this up and restarting the service clobbers the login state. Given 16004 was logged 7 months ago with zero activity, this is an indication that Netgate devices no longer support Tailscale.

I changed the squid package last night and shortened all of the tab names so they should fit back into tabs now, and won't trigger the drop-down navigation. If you reinstall the package it should pick up the change.

You can easily do this without Squid: if Bob has a static IP, you can put him in the "penalty queue" of the traffic shaper.

@scottnguyen: Now that 1.2.3 is out, I was beginning to try out the FS package.  I saw here that a comment to try it internally it was said "To make this work locally only, bind ext/int/lan to the LAN IP" and Make sure turn off/configure your local machine's firewall too. Q 1.  Exactly how do BIND the EXTernal / INTerfaces interfaces? If you want both internal and external profiles to bind to a particular ip address. Then there is a variable local_ip_v4 that is usually determined automatically however you can override the value by setting it at the top of the variables page. <x-pre-process cmd="set" data="local_ip_v4=192.168.0.1">If you want to adjust only a single sip profile you edit it and remove the ${local_ip_v4} and replace it with IP you want FreeSWITCH to bind to. <param name="rtp-ip" value="${local_ip_v4}"> <param name="sip-ip" value="${local_ip_v4}"> By default local_ip_v4 detect the WAN IP and therefore binds the internal and external profile to the WAN IP. But it is still protected by the firewall. So by default only people on the LAN can access it. @scottnguyen: Q 2.  If I turn off the firewall, then obviously that feature is off, what is the better way to test this only INTERNALLY?  I wish to test the features with no public DNS or IP Address yet. Set it up in the LAN or wherever you want and get a phone or soft phone and register to it. P.S The project has finally gotten a name. Its called fusionpbx and it is now multi-platform and the website is http://www.fusionpbx.com. pfSense package for the latest version is in the development.</x-pre-process>

I haven't used mod_syslog yet but I know there is xml config file for it. /usr/local/freeswitch/autoload_configs/syslog.conf.xml Looked at the file and didn't see any settings to push to a remote syslog server so I imagine it talks to the local syslog server. Mark J Crane

@sourcenaut: Do I need to set any outgoing pass rules for wan? No, traffic can leave from the pfSense box itself by default (and can't be blocked, actually) If you want to prevent someone from getting out of the WAN, you need to block them coming into the (LAN, LAN2, LAN3, etc).

Code is not finnished. I am adding a Ajax search/filter to the "Alerts tab" and "Blocked tab" , because users have sugested it. Its taking me long than expected. Thanks for the feed back. James @Hugovsky: Another thing… can't see reason why ips are blocked in blocked tab. Only shows n/a.

@GruensFroeschli: You could install the developers version which has most of the tools a stock FreeBSD has. Basically: everything strapped away in the pfSense version is still there in the developers version. Thanks for the info - wasn't aware of that.  Definitely a lot easier than trying to cobble together a working OS from a full disk install to the pared down firewall edition.

@biatche: I plan to have a pfsense rig with 2 hard disks, 1 for pfsense, another for squid cache (raptor) first of all, does anybody find this necessary? or should I put pfsense on the raptor and cache along with it. is it at all possible (guidance if possible) to setup pfsense in this manner? Its supposed to increase speeds a good bit… especially if you have a really big and really fast newer hard drive. They say that having squid on the same Hard Drive that the OS is on makes it slower. Although, this also depends on how many users you will have on your system. If you have 100, then by all means get two 500GB Hard drives. If you only have 5 (like us), I think a faster sata hard drive would work, just you would not need a ton of space. I've got a 160GB Hard drive I want to use, but I've not been able to get the bios to detect it, or pfsense to mount it, so I don't know if it will work.
