My home router uses WPA-TPIK for its encryption. Thanks for the suggestion. I will try using inSSIDer once I get my primary laptop back running; it's not booting. School issued laptops are cruddy and hard to self-service since they lock everything.

Ok, it was a Windows Explorer issue with something I do not understand.

If she tries \server_name, she access it but with only one folder, not all of the folders. That's why she thought she did not have access to it.

If she tries \IP.of.the.server, she access the whole content.

Looks that the NAS did not appear also in the "Network" tab but as I set up a shortcut to \IP.of.the.server, it works well.

    Sorry for the noise :-[

    Hello ,

Here is probably the best site for purchasing what you are wanting to do in regards of a point to point wireless setup.

    http://www.wirelessnetworkproducts.com/

I set up an 12 mile link first using Trazeo radios, about 7 years ago, then we went to Ubiquiti radios two years ago with same antennas. With the Ubiquiti radios the throughput was half again better. This was my first endevour of doing this long of a shot,so I am NO expert but the link is very stable after  this time. It is a simple bridge setup which is what you are wanting to accomplish(to start out with anyway).

The price has come down sooo much on this good business grade hardware in the last 4-5 years! Your only BIG concern is with that distance you are going to HAVE to have your antennas up on 100' towers. You will have to hopefully be able to find an existing cell phone company to lease a spot on their tower.(This will be realistically impossible),,,:(
Depending on were you are located if you have gran elevators, this is the cats meow. these type of businesses may even let you hang your antennas on one of their gran legs for nothing if it is an old family run business for example.
I would guess for what you are wanting to do,You could buy all of your hardware for $2000 or less to do what you are wanting to accomplish! A simple bridge with one repeater in line
    Hope this helps.

    Take Care,
    Barry

    krazykev,

Just curious if you ever got your wifi mystery resolved? From reading this thread I am not really able to add any useful information,,,but seeing how from what you have posted the usb dongle,is causing the pfSense machine to randomly reboot, I am sure you are going to have problems with the given usb dongle you are using. I would guess you do not have an open slot inside your pfSense machine to utilize an pci wifi card?
I would guess this would solve all of your wifi dodgyness.
It would appear to me the chipset and/or the physical usb is not right on the usb dongle you are using thus causing your machine to randomly reboot.

    Take Care,
    Barry

Wow… that actually worked I didn't even think to mess with that.

It has been on auto since I originally configured it.

    Thanks!

If you want to use 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz at the same time, you will need two cards.  As far as I know, access points that use both at the same time actually use two separate devices internally, one for each frequency.

No need for second firewall rule on OPT1Wireless, because first one already allows all :)

Do you firewall rules allow access to DHCP from and to any IP address?  If that doesn't work, since you are using a different system as the DHCP server, have you tried using the DHCP relay? (Services: DHCP Relay)

Wow, that was quite easy, I upgraded to 2.0, set the correct settings on the WIFI interface page, and now it's authenticating me. Only thing I can't find in the new interface is how to bridge the wifi adapter and LAN connection?

    Edit: Nevermind: Interfaces/Assign/Bridges tab

    wallabybob,

Your suggestion really help.  Now I got my wireless network up and working with Host AP mode without having to do any other modification.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

How recent is the run driver in your snapshot?
I see from the freebsd lists, here, that the driver didn't support hostap mode and I can find no mention of it being added subsequently.
However that was over a year ago.

Thanks, i take it that i will then be able to set it up using the GUI web interface and that these settings are automatically saved and applied on boot? (and no, i won't replace LAN with run0 again, i've learned what that does now ;) )

Just pick whatever the latest snapshot is, there is no one preferred snapshot date/time.

We do this quite often with pfSense and Engenius WAPs.  Most of the Engenius equipment supports VLANs and up to 4 SSIDs.  As long as the wireless resides outside the pfSense box 1.2.3 will work fine.
