you can get 99.9% uptime w/ a service guarantee if you are willing to pay as much as your rent/mortgage (more or less depending on how much squalor …or NOT  :) you live in)

sometimes IT ISN'T the CABLE MODEM

for about 2mos my cable modem locked up almost every day... I was getting VERY ANGRY... I called the cable company they sent people out 3 times

(each tech more or less blamed the last tech...or ME which kinda pissed me off.  they swapped cables (redid connectors out side/inside the house)  they even switched modems

none the less the cable modem locked up every day

finally  i called again... and someone there at the cable company FINALLY (apparently cause they said there was an error in the provisioning... and when they fixed the provisioning the problem went away.) double checked all settings on their end.

it was ticking me off ...been pretty good since... not stellar but for residential service certainly passable.

there's a ticket open on this issue.

I'd use nmap to ping scan the entire subnet. After that, even firewalled hosts that don't respond to the ping will be in your ARP table.

example:
nmap -sP 192.168.0.0/24

Dynamic DNS has nothing to do with the DNS options you are talking about.
Services –> Dynamic DNS

to access the webgui from the outside you need to create rule on the WAN interface that allows traffic from the WAN

(there is this link named "search" in the top-bar)

Sorry all, haven't abandoned this, I just have the flu right now…

What are you complaining about?
If a command from the underlaying OS isn't accessible from the webGUI then start your compiler and implement it yourself.

If pfSense is ported to Delphi or C#, i'm your guy.

Thanks for the post, but what ended up working for me was:

mount /dev/ufs/pfSense /

This allowed me to write. I then tried to unmount with the same command but got no where. However after some time (30 minutes?) the file system put itself back to read only.

You might check the bios revision numbers between a working unit and the other four units… also look very closely at the chips on the boards to make sure they are the same revision levels as well - otherwise you will have to go the RMA route.

Very true - you will see if pfsense is detecting the processor cores but the question was to see if the cores were actually being used - the top command will show it whereas the dmesg will only show they were detected.  :)
