UPDATE: I replace the flash drive with a new one, same crash.  Replaced the Power supply with a beefy 500 watt that is a known good one, still crash.  I took the Sun quad port card nic out and it's been running every since. The problem has to be with the card itself or the drivers… SIGH...

That's not the same problem as Zotek. Zotek has client machines that loose internet access when they are rebooted, not pfSense. What hardware are you running? Steve

@stephenw10: @johnpoz: Why would you not want more features and abilities is the question ;) Exactly.  :) Since you aren't familiar with managed switches you now have a great learning opportunity. In fact I would think you could use some of the security/separation features that you get in your WISP environment. About the only reason not to use a managed switch is that they normally consume more power. In some cases a lot more. Steve Exactly, am looking forward to learning all about this stuff. What is the security/separation that you mentioned?  Sorry for a simple question i guess, just not sure what you meant.  VLAN's i have heard alot about but dont really understand still or know how they may assist me at all, will need to learn about that

Thanks. Will try taking it up either with the manufacturer or on another board as suggested. It's probably a limitation of the current firmware tho. Thanks again for the effort.

I tried disabling NAT.  That simply made things unusable.  Had to reset the device to get it working again. In the meantime, I received a reply from Zoom.  Without admitting that the modem/router can't be configured as a bridge, I was advised to purchase just a "modem" that would act in bridge mode.  So, I did that.  I picked up a Cisco DPC3008.  After a bit of fiddling and a couple of calls to Comcast, I've got it working with my NetGate pfSense router. Thanks for all the input.  I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me as I try to figure out how to configure the firewall, port forwarding and failover stuff.  I'll try not to be a pest, though. Cheers, Dave

Put that code inside an actual script somewhere and then call it. Not as nice as a shellcmd, but shellcmd wasn't really designed to handle those sorts of commands.

@podilarius: That is definitely possible to do on pfsense. Okay, thanks. I'm going on next week.

Looking at your diagram it seems more likely that your existing device is configured as transparent firewall. Does that seem possible? Steve

stephenw10, thank you very much, I think it's working now. I did the Load Balance and it seems OK. Doubt: it's necessary a rule to interface receive the pings request, isn't? Otherwise, the gateway status will appear offline. Well, I made a rule that allows them (pings). Because I had a problem when I took the ethernet cable away. The gateway was offline even the interface (OPTx) status online. Sorry the English…

not sure why it wouldn't. do you have vlans in place or anything like that? i have my pfsense 2.1_x64 on esxi 5 and it runs flawlessly. my setup is slightly different in that my vdsl modem is physically connected to my switch and is vlan'd from there which frees up a nic on the esxi server as it doesn't have a dedicated wan. the virtual switch on esxi (which the nic is allocated to) is set to allow all vlans and the vlan's are set up in pfsense (rather than pfsense just have wan, lan and the vlans set on the virtual switch) pppoe is set in pfsense so it definitely works a all i've done in effect with the above is change where the physical connection for the modem resides

Steve, That worked thanks. I redid the pkd_add and noticed it says wput is already installed. Time to find an anonymous ftp server for uploads…. Are there any other ways I can collect stats other than checking the RRD graphs using fetch and wput? Thanks again
