Thank you. Wi-Fi network seems to be working and WPA2 password authentication working. See how it goes with some other mobiles when visitors test it during the week.

It shouldn't be an issue. It's fixed now and I upgraded my box using the auto button no problem. The real lesson here might be to hold back a day or so and let someone else take the hit! Of course if your box is at hand, as mine was, then taking that hit so that someone else doesn't have to fly across the country to fix theirs is a good thing.  :) Steve

It was an issue with parent VLANs.  I simply forgot about VLAN tagging for a bit.

Hmm… The version I installed when i experienced this was 2.1.4, but since 2.1.5 was released recently, i re-downloaded and installed again. Seems fine now. Very strange.

I would exepect pfSense to be at least as 'secure' as the Draytek router as a fresh install. Some here would argue that you're not really 'secure' unless you're running Snort (or equivalent). It depends how you define secure really. Of your list the only thing I can see any issue with would be redirecting p2p traffic via a specific VPN. How are you planning to catch that traffic? There is a layer 7 filter that can do it but I've personally found it very easy to get wrong.  ;) If you're able to divide out the p2p traffic some other way, like using a separate wifi network, it will be much easier. Hi Stephen, Yes that's correct I put in the username and password and it gets the IP address.  Both my broadband services have have static IPs this is where I was getting confused. Many Thanks.

I see it says dev mirror in there.. I've run into this issue before as well actually. It was a while ago, but how I resolved it was to choose to install using a geom mirror but then chose "advanced setup" instead of basic. I answered all the questions with basically default values and then it installed fine.. Want to give that a try? If that doesn't work, do you want to try booting with another live cd such a the gparted cd and just remove all existing partitions before trying to install?

I'm using the 1G image on an 8G flash drive. Did you try a different brand of stick? There are a few that don't work well, for some OS's anyway.

Thanks, I tried searching the docs for "import", but nothing relevant came up. It seems searching for "restore" would have provided the right results.

@Google: Good night, Greetings pfSense. Sorry want to ask about the pfSense installation. Here I'm getting a project for the manufacture of final project topic lectures with pfSense. But I have a problem with the installation of pfSense. I want nanya how ya how to install pfSense (from the beginning) of the iso you have downloaded and already extracted through "7zip" then the pfsense want to install to a hard disk of a Blackbox (the hardware used to run the pfsense) in order to run. I and teman2 often found pfSense installations using CF (compact flash), but the context and different times using the hard disk. I hope brothers - sisters are more expert can provide a solution. Thank you. Regards, Scorpionandy pfSense has two variants: Full & NanoBSD.  The former is designed to be installed to a hard drive or SSD.  The latter is designed to be installed to a CF card, SD card, or USB Thumb Drive and has some modification to limit the number of writes to disk. If you are trying to do a full install then you'll need to download the ISO, burn it to a CD, then boot from that CD and select the appropriate options as the system boots.  You should not be extracting the files from the ISO.  If you are trying to do a NanoBSD install then you will need a second computer where you can download the image, uncompress it, write it to your card (using physdiskwrite, dd, or similar), then transplant that card to the system you want to use with pfSense. More information can be found here: https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Installing_pfSense

Install FreeBSD in a virtual machine on your PC, attach the USB to that virtual machine, and you'll be able to access it. Maybe you should check http://ufs2tools.sourceforge.net/ too.

Unfortunately with a dual network failover configuration my current setup won't support PFsense at the edge of the network (only 2 ports available) I have considered setting up a PFsense router/firewall device, but with the cost of ours, and the fact the the owner just put more money out on it for support/updates he would be unwilling to pay out for another device. So am stuck where I am.

I finally got around to this upgrade by swapping with a different CF card, but that was definitely a pain to deal with.  For a Netgate m1n1wall, you have to take out the 4 cover screws, the 4 screws that hold the board to the case, and the 2 nuts that hold the serial port connector in the back.  Only then can you remove the board from the case just to swap out the CF card.  After that, it was just importing the backup config and allowing it to reboot one last time.  I know it bugged me just having to do this once, but I just feel bad for any admins that may have purchased these for multi-site implementations. Anyways, it's all good now.  Thanks for everyone's help!  8)

Are you using mSATA and flash memory card ? Why not loading the image directly on the disk and booting directly from ?
